peugeot 406 woes

Just had a phone call of my aunt. She owns a r plate 406 lx 1.8 petrol. She has owned it since 2006 an probably done no more than 15 k in that time. Been regularly serviced and recently just had new cambelt. She said it was juddering slightly on pull off and making a funny noise. I went to her work place to have a nosey. Slight bit of mayo in the filler cap but nothing of concern as she only travels 2 mile to work and 2 mile home. It did look slightly metallic though under the torchlight. I pulled dipstick out to check for contamination and was like pulling through 80 grit paper. Metal shards all way up and oil like grit. Oil probably last changed 1.5k ago so I think somethin wrong somewhere serious. Before she goes and has her pants down by the garage she used since she started driving 20 year ago I was wondering if any of you fine chaps could give me a few pointers. Thanks guys

Sounds like almost certainly time for another engine or a trip over the bridge.

Sorry...

That's what I think tbh. Admittedly it is a low mileage car but that's it. Bodywork got car park dings all over it (works at b n q) front bumper melted in passenger side (my fault, parked hot motorbike exhaust too close) and had numerous welding patches on sills. I thinks its only got 80k if that in clock

Anymore ideas guys?

Absolutely!

Best thing she could do is buy my Y plate 406 1.8 to ease the pain for only £300.

What is tax an ticket on it? Where abouts are you mate? I reckon she get a ton on bridge for it. An I have told her I can probably get her a nice motor for between 3 +5 hundred with some ticket on it

Sorry warren being dumb now. I found the thread with details on.

Would interior ,boot lid, bonnet and other ancillarys be worth selling on or better to throw it all over the bridge?

If its been serviced properly,it shouldn't have done that - cheap oil or bad garage maybe ?

She used same garage for years never had issues. Could it be caused by the stupidly low miles? Question is what could actually be the fault?

I have many customers who do in some cases under a thousand miles a year, and have never had anyone lose a engine in this way;I hope they have actually done the work in the past as they say they have, and not like some less honest places with the ' they don't go far, they won't know the difference '

80K isn't a lot of miles at all for a modern engine, but to have metal particles means bearing failure, which could have been caused by clogged oilways maybe, but regular servicing and quality oils would normally prevent this.Having said that, she could have bought it from a previous less caring owner, and its just taken this long for the gremlins to make a apperance

Probably not easy or worthwhile to pursue this legally, but I'd defo be sending that oil for chemical analysis to try and gauge its age and/or see WTF happened to it.

There was not much history with it when history when she bought it. Was a trade in at a dealer near her. Was only 8 year old when she bought it and think had approx 60k on clock then. The garage she uses has always been fair with her. They welded sills on a escort she owned for 50 quid which wasn't bad and that was in 2005. They always bring her a courtesy car n take hers so she don't have to go cos of work etc. I don't think it would be garages deliberate fault. But who knows. I think bottom end is shot but I couldn't look in the dark and rain properly. Misfiring Like a good un and really grumbling and rattling. Like I said I doubt she even don 20k in 7 years
