Insurance shite

Just sold my 300bhp Mazda Mps and phoned my insurance company to swap the policy over to my retro shite £500 mk1 Ibiza 1.2 60bhp .

Sorry Sir, but as that cars over 16 years old, we can't insure it on your policy, but we can give you a new quote.... Ok but since when have 16 year old cars been too old to insure? I assumed they classed 16 year old cars as classic, so the new quote would be priced accordingly. How wrong I was.

Anyway after arguing the my 1.2L ibiza wasnt a GLX, Crono or Comfort, they asked if the car had ABS! WTF its not even got power steering love!!

Ok Sir, fully comp that will be £542 wth £450 excess, or 3rd party £466 with £100 excess. Would you like to purchase the cover now?

No I shiyting well wouldnt. I'm 30 with 9 years no claims in a nice low risk area. Fully comp on the Mazda worth 10 times more and with 5 times the power, it was £421 fully comp with £250 excess and breakdown cover.

Anyway I've still not cancelled my policy cus its 9 months in, and I aint losing a years no claims, so I'm looking at getting some cheap shite to run around in for 3 months. Got some fresh insurance quotes. £147 comp on the Ibiza and £220 comp on the shite I'm thinkin about buying. So Aviva go stick you quote up your shite pipe

Here endeth the rant

What you're doing is completely pointless. Most insurers will max their NCD out at 5 years, some may go up to 7. Even if you do find the one who'll take into account up to ten years, the difference between having 9 or 10 will be the square root of eff all.

If i cancel my policy I have no cover to borrow my parents or mate car if I need it. By the time they take the cancelation fee out, I'll be left with, well the square root of feck all. I'd be buying a new car within weeks anyway, so what would I gain cancelling? Diddly squat. They also wont freeze my policy for a month, I asked

Just buy a new policy for the Ibiza, with 9 years' NCD. Job jobbed.

This. You should get a refund for cancelling your current policy (pro rata obviously). I cancelled my 'modern' policy mid-term after selling the Maverick. Got £18 which I didn't think was bad considering there was just over 2 months left before renewal. I've found Tesco and Direct Line quite competitive for modern stuff.

Does mean I've got a slight headache about the NCD. I've got two years before it expires so I need to decide whether to let that happen, or whether to get some modern shite at some point. Guess it depends how the finances are looking!

It don't matter. Just get a regular policy for your old shite and cancel it just before the cooling off period ends. A £25 admin fee later, your NCD has been renewed for another two years.

Losing one years' NCD due to brentacre dropping a bollock (they wrote 9 instead of 10 years on the paperwork) meant i ended up paying around £20 more than the original quote of £550 odd. In a high risk area, on a van.

The ibiza shite is off the road and has been for 2 years now. Its almost ready for the road again, but has a hole in the fuel tank. Was just going to swap it over to keep me insured 3rd party on other cars. I'd get about £30 back if i cancelled now, but then im stuck if I need to borrow a car over crimbo.

Its just shite that I can insure 2 cars fully comp for £360 and my insurance company want £542 for 1. I've not paid over £500 for insurance since I was about 22, and I've had 2 Imprezas and an Evo.

Even if I did use the ibiza and claimed I wouldnt get anything back on it as the excess was as much as the cars worth. Even the windscreen excess was £100!

Read somewhere that the new ruling comes in soon, where insurance companies cant charge more for blokes than women, so unlucky ladies, your policies will go up to make up for the drop in price that young lads will get.

A sneaky peak at the Ibiza Shite
