mattblack Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Well, it's home... Had a bit of cloak-and-dagger stuff meeting the bloke as I only had a postcode, but got that sorted and followed him to where it was stored. he reconed it had been standing for week, with a bit of churning and choke manipulation it burst into (rattly) life. I had a quick look round it, body is probably better than I expected TBH. Interior is needs a good clean and it will need tyres. The journey home was made more interesting by the fact that A. the driver's seat is right back and wouldn't move and B. the clutch only just clears at the bottom of it's travel. Oh, and there's no interior mirror and the no water in the washers. But it went suprisingly well and there were no nasty clonks or rattles that I could hear. I'm off outside for a play with it this afternoon, while the O/H puts the deccys up.
Split_Pin Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Yes, please post pic up of your new purchase. Have fun!
mattblack Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 Right, had better look at it now. Interior was absolutly minging and the carpets were swimming both sides, front and rear. A sesion with the wet 'n' dry vac improved things a lot, but obv. there is a leak somewhere that needs sorting. The tinworm has had good munch on the area below the side window in the load area on the offside, haven't had a look at the other side yet... Non-adjusting seat was just the operating rod underneath having come adrift. Clutch is supposed to be self-adjusting but IIRC it has some sort of plastic tooth affair at the pedal so that may be fubar'd. That said, the clutch was replaced when a S/H engine was fitted at 56,025 miles last year (showing 63,000 odd now) so it may improve. Coolant is doing a good impression of oxtail soup and the radiator needs replacing as it's showing signs of weeping and some sections of fins have gone AWOL. I'll treat it to some new hoses while I'm at it. Engine is pretty oily but I'm hoping it's just the rocker gasket. I'm going to stick it in the lock-up and sort out the various bits that need doing before I start using it. I also had a peruse through the paperwork.. makes interesting reading. The first lady owner managed to get through a clutch in 28,900 miles, and then another one at 34,692... and then ANOTHER one at 37,378... There's also a bill for £400 of welding in Nov '08. Oringinal bill of sale shows a total price of £6153.44, less £2582.44 trade in allowance a 1979 Cortina 1.6L with 25,000 on the clock.
Shep Shepherd Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Invicta Motors, the Ford main dealer serving my birthplace and the surrounding area - what a blast from the past! Quite a few of my relatives bought Fords from them in the 1980s and 1990s They are still in Canterbury (and other towns in east Kent), albeit operating from a different location in the city these days.
oman5 Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 If its leaking into the footwells, you can pretty much guarentee that the leak will be from the bulkhead. there is a cavity in front of the windscreen where the wiper mechanism lives, drain holes get clogged and water rots its way out. on the other hand could just be the screen seal
FredTransit Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 sounds like pretty standard pito oil leaks. I didnt know the Tina had that daft self adjusting clutch thing. I know the Mk3 transit can be converted to manual so maybe the tina cable can be?

I know the Mk3 transit can be converted to manual so maybe the tina cable can be? IIRC you could get a kit to convert them to manual ajustment 'back in the day'. Of course the autoshite solution would be some sort of Heath Robinson spacer between the end of the cable and the clutch arm...
mattblack Posted December 16, 2012 Author Posted December 16, 2012 A few quick phone pics, with bonus HOT LOCK-UP AKSHUN. If anyone is thinking of making a drama set in 1993 and featuring a character that does a bit of window cleaning but also signs on, you know who to call (can supply own roof rack)
HMC Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Nice car. Our circa 1993 window cleaner had a similar looking but blue estate, which replaced a chevanne. Had stick on graphics down the sides- carousel or cruseder maybe (?did they come in estate flavour) Could have just been a halfords special
Split_Pin Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Thats a timewarp car, but in a wonderful mid-90's way. Use as-is etc. Hope the water ingress isnt caused by anything sinister.
autofive Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 i have spare bumper ends and exterior trim if you need any
