There's not much there about maintenance.

I suspect it's a bit like the apochryphal street sweeper who used the same broom for 30 years (and in all that time it only needed 40 new brushes and 20 new handles...)

I wonder how much oil he's used. If it was a BL product we might be nearer a global shortage of lubricating oil.

That piece is well out of date, it's close to 3 million now.

Same engine, rebuilt twice, same tranny, mileage verified by Irv's impeccable servicing records, acknowledged by Guinness Book of Records as the highest mileage passenger car in the world.

What about the car? How much has that had done to it?

 

Sad fact: Irv Gordon bought his P1800 from Volvoville, the NY garage that converted many 1800s into dropheads. He wanted one of those, but couldn't afford it, so went with the standard tin top instead. It would have been doubly rare had a convertible 1800 done that many miles (although I suspect the block's about the only original thing left and will have probably been reground several thou')

There was an article in c&sc some while ago that went into maintenence specifics. What sticks in mind was that he sent away his instuments annually to have them serviced and calibrated as he was paranoid about 'loosing miles'
