retrogeezer Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Finally changed the exhaust on the bluey today after 2 years of 'temporary repairs' to get through the mot utilising tin cans, cut up roses tins, no-nails and cable ties. I think I got my moneys worth out of it, this is the top of the silencer:

KruJoe Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Ha ha!Good effort Si. I'm surprised the back box is always cool enough for the cable ties not to melt. Any further forward and they would.I suppose rust doesn't conduct heat as well as good metal

vulgalour Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 That's impressive. I thought the Polo backbox was bad, but that Bluey box is something special! Submit it to Tate Modern, earn squillions.

retrogeezer Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 It also became detached from the pipe about 6 months ago, I made an insert out of one can to put into the silencer and join to the pipe, then another can over the top as a sleeve with jubilee clips! It worked absolutely fine but once that hole appeared in the top it was time to call it quits. I didn't want to spend out on an exhaust just before the MOT and as luck would have it some appeared on ebay cheap a few weeks ago, £32 delivered - result! Here is the bottom of the silencer with the cut up roses tins, bit of black spray and it's as good as new!
