Insurance claim help required.

Hey peeps can anyone here help me with where to go on a claim on my insurance policy?. I have a non fault claim on the go with the co op regarding damage to a £700 car I own. The assessor has seen it and says its a £1200 to £1500 repair job + 2 weeks in the bodyshop + use of a courtesy car. He expects it to be repaired and not written off. How can I push for a write off as this seems like a shitload of money + I have to stump up £350 excess (half the cars value).

Any help received from anyone in the know will be received with thanks 8)

Hmm, I take it you mean the other people's insurance are saying this? if so have a word with your's (or a decent brief) and try telling them you're not happy to drive a car that's had twice it's value spent on repairs as the damage must be major and you wouldn't feel safe.

I expect though that the insurance can do what they like if they're forking out.

This is from my insurance company allthough I will be getting the excess back later. The assessor has allready said one panel is to be filled and painted (I could do that!). But it seems a huge waste of sheckles to do a £1200+ repair to a £700 car + whatever the coutesy car would cost?. How do I try to get someone to see sence and write it off as it is a cheaper option but also that repairing it is putting everyone elses insurance up needlessly

You want someone in an insurance company to see sense? Sorry but :lol::lol::lol::lol:

I had to claim against someone rear ending me a few years ago. The cost of the repairs were £700 plus vat (the car was worth about £1500) so I asked what my options were and the assessor offered me a cash settlement of £700 (the repair quote minus the VAT) to do the repairs myself. Might be worth asking if you have that option?

Rather than involve your insurance Co.

Approach the third partys insurance Co directly - explain the situation and say you are happy to settle for £x and keep the car / let them have the car for salvage*

I bet they settle up with you. Unless you have got a long and protracted personal injury claim going in.

I might as well make my first post now.

Do as above and at very least speak to the other insurance company and be polite and simply ask what the options are. This is what I did and I got the cars value + some for repairs. It was only a 600 quid car.

Their alternative was bureaucratic and costly for them. I fixed the car over a weekend and a weekday evening. No labour charges see.

Watch out! spraying can cost money if you get a pro to do it.
