MikeKnight Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 One of two new vehicular acquisitions, the other can be seen in my other thread. Bought to fix up and sell on, thought I'd show you guys the build progress. Won't be any updates for a long while though as we can't do much more than the interior until we get premises to work from (which we're looking for now). Can't give an exact model date as this is a one-off conversion from a 105 saloon to a convertible in fibreglass from the top conversion guy from the Alfa Romeo UK club. It's all running but needs a bit of TLC in order to get it ready for resale, the main brake servo also needs replacing as it's completely shot and (obviously) needs a respray because its time in storage has shagged most of the paint. It goes like absolute stink. Look at the last picture and you'll notice it has twin Weber carburettors, not the remake shite from Spain but the genuine article from Italy, we looked into it a bit more and the engine has been majorly upgraded. It weighs nothing and goes like absolute stink. We got it for an absolute steal, we more or less robbed the poor guy, as well as getting his HOUSE FULL of genuine 1960's Alfa Romeo spare parts (five god damn dashboards and four god damn shitting hell full interiors). I about fainted when I realised what we were getting in the deal. The only downside is it has no roof whatsoever so we'll likely have to get a frame made for a custom ragtop for it. Either that or weld a roof from a shagged 105 onto the underlying metal frame and join it to the body. Either or. Both work.
Rocket88 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 It appears to have bodywork..............which can't possibly be right.
HillmanImp Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 It appears to have bodywork..............which can't possibly be right. They probably recylced the roof to replace the floor. Are you happy its been done properly? I see they did do a limited run of convertibles on the earlier models as the Giulia Sprint GTC (according to Wikipedia). I don't recall ever seeing one though. Looks nice. I hope its as good underneath.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Looks nice! Paint job looks a bit sus like..... I remember a converted 105 being on eBay for months and months a while back, it had Mk1 Escort-style bubble arches, slotmags and a token roof made out of pigs ears, what a disgrace that one was.
MikeKnight Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Good points: * The floor is solid as a rock. Looks almost brand new under there, even the suspension has no rust on it. NONE AT ALL. I was astounded.* The conversion was done by one of the top blokes in the country, he's actually local to me so we went around and had a look at his massive fibreglass workshop in his equally massive back garden. He's completely insane (I blame fibreglass fumes) but good at what he does. Bad points: * I know shit and fuck all about Alfa Romeo's. It's going to be a hell of a steep learning curve.* Paint is totally shagged, needs a full professional respray.
