6 volt solenoids- any ideas?

My old Fregate (no2) is 6 volt -and remaining so. However, the pre-engaged Ducelier starter solenoid is goosed ( I'd guess too many people been shorting it on 12v to get it running). Starter motor itself is sound -looks like its been rebuiilt actually, but the solenoids cooked/baked/ generally knackered- and is a sealed unit.

Twas a total bastad to get off too -involving the manifolds, downpipe etc etc etc. So i want it right- before I replace everything

But, I've no flaming idea where to get a replacement - so I thought I'd appeal to the A/s massive for some pertinent suggestions? Please?

Thank you muchly

You could try speedy spares in portslade, I'm regularly surprised by the obscure stuff that they have in stock.

Is this a separate solenoid, inertia starter, or a pesky modern pre-engager, if the former, a cable operated 'noid, as on an A35 would simplify things.

Hi Nigel I have got a six volt starter but no idea if it is any good and it is the cable operated type. Let me know if you are interested and I will see if it will do anything as I suspect 40 odd years of sitting half in a french barn probably didn't do it a lot of good

Is there no way of removing the solenoid from the S-Motor at all ?

If there is, and you could get it to me soon, i 'may' be able to have it tested and possibly have it re-wound.

*This is of course me being a cheeky b*stard, as i'm going to a new company for a wee few weeks, and they specialise in motor re-windings and the like :)

Thanks for the offer of the cable version PH -that fits a colorale -but not a Fregate.

I'll get on the phone & see whats out there- problem is they'll all want to see it & I cant travel right now.

Minimad- may I get back to you -if I cant get anything?

Nigel,

There's a firm up my way who will be able to fix it. They're in Borehamwood & I've used them for loads of jobs in the past. PM me if you need more info. You could post it up to me & I'll arrange to get it to them-they're a few miles from my place.

I've also a load of 6 volt relays, if you want some!
