Hyundai Pony Excel 1.3 Sonnet Tropicana £500 Devon

The inevitable thread has happened and for sale is my upsettingly beige Hyundai Pony. If it doesn't sell at this price I will carry on using it, it is just so un-relentingly miserable in every possible way that I do slightly fancy something a bit perkier as an everyday runner.

You may already know about this award winning motor car if you attended ‘shite fest’ where it won the prestigious award for ‘shite-iest car’.

The important facts:

It has approximately 23,000 miles

It has all old MOTs to back up this mileage.

It has MOT until March 2013

It drives like new

It has only had one small area of welding

The interior is in excellent condition

The exterior is also in excellent condition.

It has 4 brand new Toyo tyres.

I bought this a few weeks ago from eBay to use every day as it is virtually a new car, but I am finding it very hard to like, especially as it feels wrong using it as it should be in a museum.

It is not a dynamic and exciting car.

It is quite slow and the handling isn’t up to much either, but as a cool old retro lump of beige that gets you from A to B without breaking down it is exceptional. To drive it is like new with a quiet engine and a solid gear change. I really doubt that this car has ever been hard in its life as evidenced by it still having 3 of the original tyres when I bought it, which have now been changed for 4 brand new Toyos.

The bodywork is mostly exceptional with just very tiny little patches of minor rust around the rear arches. The only patch of welding that needed doing was at the back of the driver’s side sill, which I have re-done as the original patch wasn’t of any particular quality. This is on the bottom of the sill so is virtually un-noticeable unless you are a small rodent who has just been run over.

The interior is also extremely clean with just a few nicks in the vinyl showing that it has been used, but everything works, from the FM radio, door open warning lights and the clock.

I am using it every day on a 30 mile round commute so the mileage may go up a little.

So what are you waiting for, don’t you need a little more beige in your life?

£500 and not a near offer. May consider a swap, but it would have to be good. If anyone offers a V-reg Astra, bicycle, laptop or other junk then I will go round their house and stamp on all their toys.

For your £500 you do not get any road tax but it can be arranged.

It is located in East Devon, just 5 minutes from the M5 J27.

Does it come with instructions on how to open the bonnet?

Full instructions can be provided to the new owner to avoid any potential embarrassment.

Fancy a swap for my Bluebird? 76k miles MOT feb, and I'm local

Sorry, but unfortunately the Nissan blue bird (I guess you are talking about a late 80s/ early 90s one with the little grills in the rear quarters) are one of a few cars that I cannot stand.

NC, that Bluebird is the top-of-the-range SLX, isn't it? Does it come with aircon and/or cruise?

It's the one below the range topper. No aircon or cruise control though

If I had £500 I'd definately give it to someone else to buy this so it stays in the family. The most utterly fucking miserable looking prize winner of evar.

GLWTS :)

If only I hadn't just bought a bland beige late 80's 3 door hatch for around £500.

A week earlier and I'd have been on the train!

Gorgeous car!

Would be a great deal if supplied with the cars original award?

As I have just seen a car which I want more than I want my next breath, this is getting bumped to the top.

Someone must want this lovely lump of misery so I can buy something French in a weird choice of combined colours.

This is in better nick that my 1.5GLS when it was 6 years old...granted it only cost me £240 in 1991 but this has to be even cheaper in real terms.

Now very for sale as new car is arriving soon. Insurance on this runs out in the middle of October so if it hasn't sold by then it is going to evil-bay.
