Bye Bye BX, I need new shite

After showing many signs of imminent demise for some time our BX estate has finally kicked the bucket with a full dash of warning lights telling of an utterly knackered engine. If the body was any good I'd fix her but she is rotten and well dented so it's probably best just to break her

I've just been to see a scruffy but solid B reg Orion with 50k miles, looks ok at £500 with a fresh MOT or £400 without. What are they like to live with? The rear arch is a bit crusty, I'm guessing it'll need a new one if I fit rear belts?

I had a C reg diesel in the late 90's. It was a very comfortable and roomy car. It had a big boot and was generally easy to get on with. I always liked the shape. The steering was very heavy though (being a diesel). Unfortunately when I had it, it was well past its best mechanically and I ended up selling it and getting a Maestro diesel. This one actually had rear belts fitted!

Hope this helps.

Peter.

PS: By the way I would have another definately especially if it was a diesel!!

They're a bit dull to be honest, but pretty reliable and reasonable to live with. Seem to recall the engines like regular oil changes or they get a bit rattly/hydraulic tappety, plus usual Ford-of-that-era rust of course.

£500 for something with a full MOT isn't that bad I suppose and if you can squeeze 18 months plus out of it it won't owe you anything.

Cheers guys, I've been umming and arring about it and I think I'll go for it, I can nick the rear belts from the Citroen.
