Old Pug stereo, code needed!

Picked up a period pug car stereo cassette for the 205 from a junk shop in Cornwall, £2, untested. Bargain! Plugged it in to try it out and the display shows the word SECURITY in big green letters. It doesn't respond do any key input so I'm guessing that someone has already tried to put a code in, got it wrong and locked it up.

Can the unit be saved? The model number is PU-9833A. There are some important looking numbers on the case, 286-8038-01, 96158635-80 and No 125476. Serial number is CL0169P0007134

Any ideas if I can get this thing to work? I remember sticking old head units in the freezer overnight would unlock them, but I think that may be a bit of an old pub tale, I know of no instances when this has worked!

£15?? I'm not made of money! I'll just stick it in the freezer, forever.

Posted it as it says how to reset from locked to code ready. + If its the clarion one You can try using 0854, it is a clarion factory code. If it does not work do not insist, some radios locks up after third attempt.

When I worked at a Pug dealer in the early 90s, the cars last 4 chassis number digits would be used, could be worth a go.

He won't have that, Des:

Our kid might have an idea Tim, I'll ask Will later in the week if you don't get it sorted first.

PS, if you do try the freezer trick, wrap it up well in cling film first, or freezer-bag it, just so it doesn't fill up with condensation when you take it out. Let it thaw inside the plastic.

If you get stuck, I have a decent Peugeot 405 stereo with code doing nothing in the shed you can have for the price of postage.

Thanks for the offer LP, but a guy at work randomly gave me a radio cassette from a 2004 VW polo (or something) so I no longer need the code to this pug item.... I still wouldn't mind to get it going though!
