Watched Her Maj on the news collected after this morning's sing-song and saw a few yards of road roll under the Bentley's wheels - and struck by the very wrongness for The Queen's wheels of this maroon German machine. What looked like a plastic chin spoiler combined with a little bit of negative camber on the front axle (and false chrome bumper) may look great on anything else, but to me - along with some poor reflections and iffy lines on the rear wings (the arches remind me of a repaired Mk1 Golf), this car looks wrong for its purpose.

 

On the other hand, the genuine old stuff looked quite lovely, although perhaps HD shows up some less than perfect paint and repair work which the old tube never revealed. I seem to remember thinking the rear wheelarch/rear wing treatment of the Audi R8 was the bit which stood out as not right when I saw one up close.

 

Of course people said the same thing about travelling under motive power instead of on the back of a sweaty, hairy animal, such is human nature.

Didn't Bentley give her a pair of those motors 10 years ago for the last jubilee?

 

Kinda fitting that she's driven around in a German motor, what with her family being German and all...
