jakebullet Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Just clonked a BMW in asda car park Road is blocked by OMG must buy petrol chaos, so reversed at 0.5 mph to go a different way. Thud! Beeeeeep! First thing the giffer says is you kept coming so I reversed but you kept coming and hit me. FFS! You had time to reverse, but didn't have time to beep before I clonked you? My insurance is due in 19 days, and they've already sent me a renewal quote. Looking at this years docs they added protected no claims on 2011 - 2012 policy. (I don't usually bother). Does this mean they can't ramp the hell out of it this time?

M'coli Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 By not using his horn to warn you, I'd say the giffer caused an avoidable accident...

Ross_K Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Any damage done? No?Witnesses? Any CCTV that shows you reversing into him?You didn't apologise or anything like that did you? If you want to be a bastard you can tell the giffer you're going to claim off him for rolling into the back of your car - tell him it'll be a 50-50 and that everybody will lose. Oh yeah, one other thing - I can't remember does the Road Traffic Act apply to a supermarket car park?

dollywobbler Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 If no damage is done, don't worry about it. If there was damage, then how much? Would be cruel to con him just because he didn't beep. There's no obligation to use your horn. I think it's entirely reasonable to expect people to not drive into you. I think the RTA does apply to car parks - the law was changed so Citroen Twatso drivers couldn't claim immunity by hiding in Maccy D's car park.

jakebullet Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Small dint to bonnet of bmw, so prolly a gajillion pounds. Broke indicator on the disco, 99p superglue fixed it.Thinking about it, I think he's come out of mcdonalds and turned right into my blind spot (when it's left turn only). I don't think I can get out of it, just wondering what the bumming from the insurance will be. First accident since 1993, so not bad going.

dieselnutjob Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 my wife reversed into a parked car last year, I just renewed her insurance last night.she lost two years on no claims, which wasn't protected, so has dropped from 7 years to 5.Her premium was actually cheaper than last yearsI will put protected no claims on hers until she is back up to 7 years I think. I have 9 years+ no claims on mine so if I had an accident it would drop to 7 years so the extra money for protected no claims isn't worth it I'm afraid that your renewal quote is probably now invalid as your circumstances have changed. Other companies will know that you had a claim and won't be impressed if you don't tell them.
Ross_K Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 If it's a tiny dent, maybe see if you can get one of those Dr. Dent type guys to fix it rather than have it sent to a BMW approved body shop where they fill the dent with gold dust? Of course the giffer might not have a reasonable side and insist having the most expensive possible fix... If he made an illegal right turn make sure your insurance company knows this.
