whitevanman Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Well I got my P100 back on the road saturday with a very nice brake rebuild including resealing tha master cylinder so Sunday went of to the local boot sale than onto the workshop.............oh oh....bang went another engine now it wasn't a suprise as her indoors used it for 2 months without any oil and water.....or brakes, without noticing any issues now of course I am pick up free once more and trying to source an engine, not an easy task as I remember from last year so I either need to get a van or a pick up.....not cheap OR find another diesel vehicle to use for a while and then rip the engine out and put it into the P100. I have done some research and have come up with 2 possabilitiesBMW318TD pre 1998Merc now I dion't know much about either car so any advice would be gratefully received, what I would like to know isFront or rear sump?ECU controlled?anyone got one for sale? or has anyone got something to tempt me with? sadly the budget is miniscule
M'coli Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 There was an Avenger for sale in the last couple of years running the Izusu 1.7 diesel lump using an XE-to-type 9 bellhousing - could this be an option?
dieselnutjob Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 the Sierra and Granada got the Peugeot Indenor engine and so did LDVs so plenty about and maybe with some Sierra bits....Also I would have thought that Ford 1.8 TD engines from early Mondeos would be easy to source and basically the same?
whitevanman Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 The mk1 and 2 Mondy and TD Escorts are the same basic engine, but you need a fair bit of jiggery pokery to fit them.....and there are very few around theses days I've had a 2.3 P100 before....not a pleasant experience
Cavcraft Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 You'd probably be better off with a VAG 1.9TDi lump. The sort found in Aldi 80TDi estates that need a fuel pump. Ideally in Cheshire.
Albert Ross Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Carlton gearbox and Frontera "Blitz" Turbo Diesel.....
CYANIDE STEVE Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 After seeing this in another thread, I think your possibilities are endless but I'm sure you are after something a tad more sensible Another one I thought of was maybe the 1.9 peugeot lump as fitted to the LDV Pilot and the FSO Caro both rear wheel drive. I don't know how good the box is or how well the Pilot box would fit. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-2-DOOR-32 ... 1029440880
Lacquer Peel Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 BMW pioneered ECU controlled diesels, so the 318TD does have an ECU, if it's like the 2.5 versions it has an in tank pump too, but it isn't that complicated compared to newer diesels. I think a 2.5 VM out of a Ford Scorpio would go nicely, 230lb/ft of torque FTW.
whitevanman Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 ah..... a VM, never thought about that....I don't mind wiring up an ECU, just kinda wanted to avoid the headache of fly by wire etc I have thought about the LDV connection, but up here we have scrappies that drain all fluids, which means I struggle to get working engines and boxes
