Buggerations

Well I got my P100 back on the road saturday with a very nice brake rebuild including resealing tha master cylinder :) so Sunday went of to the local boot sale than onto the workshop.............oh oh....bang went another engine  now it wasn't a suprise as her indoors used it for 2 months without any oil and water.....or brakes, without noticing any issues  now of course I am pick up free once more and trying to source an engine, not an easy task as I remember from last year

so I either need to get a van or a pick up.....not cheap OR find another diesel vehicle to use for a while and then rip the engine out and put it into the P100. I have done some research and have come up with 2 possabilities

BMW318TD pre 1998

Merc

now I dion't know much about either car so any advice would be gratefully received, what I would like to know is

Front or rear sump?

ECU controlled?

anyone got one for sale?

or has anyone got something to tempt me with? sadly the budget is miniscule

The mk1 and 2 Mondy and TD Escorts are the same basic engine, but you need a fair bit of jiggery pokery to fit them.....and there are very few around theses days  I've had a 2.3 P100 before....not a pleasant experience

You'd probably be better off with a VAG 1.9TDi lump. The sort found in Aldi 80TDi estates that need a fuel pump. Ideally in Cheshire.

After seeing this in another thread, I think your possibilities are endless but I'm sure you are after something a tad more sensible 8)

Another one I thought of was maybe the 1.9 peugeot lump as fitted to the LDV Pilot and the FSO Caro both rear wheel drive. I don't know how good the box is or how well the Pilot box would fit.

ah..... a VM, never thought about that....I don't mind wiring up an ECU, just kinda wanted to avoid the headache of fly by wire etc

I have thought about the LDV connection, but up here we have scrappies that drain all fluids, which means I struggle to get working engines and boxes
