SambaS Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I'd like to suggest this as an extinct 80s car. LTG 307X was last taxed in '92
SambaS Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Looks like an Aro. And its Portugese. I'm guna go with, yes. I know very little bout them tbh, just saw the brochure on ebay so bought it. Says it uses a Daihatsu engine. Dacia used Renault engines...
warren t claim Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I'm sure the ARO used the Peugeot Indenor lump.
Albert Ross Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Were they not also sold as a Cournil in some markets? No... just checked, the design was used by UMM and manufactured in Portugal....
warren t claim Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Were they not also sold as a Cournil in some markets? I think they were the ones with the snub noses. I might be wrong though.
SambaS Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 UMM Alter has a snub nose off top of me head
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Aren't they a Portuguese ARO? The clue is in the name
warren t claim Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Aren't they a Portuguese ARO? The clue is in the name Just as well they didn't call it a Portaero or they would of had to of made Saabs under licence. Or maybe bubbly chocolate.
YugoLada Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 According to HML the last one recorded was in 1997.
RedSparrow Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portaro Portaro 4x4 truck made in Portugal in the late 70`s and begining of 80`s to the National and Export markets, more than 20.000 units had been made...
Guest Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 There was a rhd aro on ebay about a year ago. I don't know if aros were exported to rhd markets? I suppose it could have been one of these. The listing was quite vague if I remember rightly
SambaS Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Maybe not the best use of the word 'just'. In anycase any more pictures ?
Guest Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Yeah here are a couple more Looks like it is "just" an aro, I did a search on dvla Vehicle enquiryThe enquiry is complete. The vehicle details for AFC 833V are:Date of Liability 01 06 1988Date of First Registration 01 10 1979Year of Manufacture 1979Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2495ccCO2 Emissions Not AvailableFuel Type PETROLExport Marker NVehicle Status UnlicensedVehicle Colour BLUEVehicle Type Approval Not Available
morris_ital_lover Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Was that part of the Glover collection... I seem to remember he has a legendary/evil lair where he keeps his epic shite on an airfield.
Guest Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I'm not sure if Sam bought it to be honest, perhaps he can let us know?
Guest Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Looking at the first picture in the thread where he is trying to sell his Volvo it looks exactly the same building in the background so it looks like Sam did buy it.
Adrian_pt Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Indeed he did:http://volganeagra.blogspot.com/2011/05 ... e-aro.htmlAlmost definitely unique.
SambaS Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 I always assumed they imported more Aros than Dacias and Portaros. See my bible is Classic & Sportscar's A-Z of Cars. But as with the Duster is just says produced n/a It also lists the years imported for the 240 as being 1982-1986
SambaS Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 So they are seemingly rare then Aro 240s... Stil want a Duster tho. Soft top in red
Adrian_pt Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Well it's all a bit convoluted: Basically the Dacia Duster, imported 1982-91, is called ARO 10 on other markets, including Romania. They were imported at the same time, and by the same dealers, as the Shifter (Dacia 1304/5) elsewhere and the Decem. But they were made at the Aro plant in Campulung, Romania, which actually has nothing to do with the Dacia plant (although they're in the same county). The ARO 24 range properly was imported in two goes, neither successfully. The first was in 1975/6 and the second in about 1980. First catalogue here: http://www.mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B22664.jpgAlongside the ARO 4x4 cars, the TV van, pick-up and minibus were also imported - although, confusingly, they were also built elsewhere, in Bucharest. In 1980 TVs were known as the Tudor. At least one TV survives (if you can call it that) in Scotland - http://www.autoshite.co.uk/phpbb3/viewt ... 5&start=75 - it seems that, judgign by the slightly bigger front grille, this is a 1980 model. I do, somewhere, have scans of the 1980 brochures. Never aware of Portaros being imported itno the UK - so a great discovery that they did. ARO 24 was also made in Spain as a Hisparo...
SambaS Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 That truck looks cool, I wonder what became of it! Yea the details from Portaro brochure: Geoff Edmunds Pampas Vehicles Limited. Taverner Trading Estate, Caerleton, Gwent, NP6 1BV
SambaS Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Have I said... I'd really like a Dacia Duster?
