ChinaTom Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I assume this is shite. Going to look at one for the Missus this afternoon. Anything to be aware of with these? It is an auto with the pushbutton 4WD, not the lever. (2007)
scooters Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 horrible choppy ride - as a shiteist you REALLY should be going down the Daihatsu Shitetrak route! GR9 4 FILLING STAYSHUN 4CORT PETRAL FITES A LA ZOOLANDER
ChinaTom Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Thought about it, but it won't fit in the little space at the front of the garage. Thought about Daihatsu Terios too, but it's too long to fit. Ride not an issue for Mrs CT - she hails from the land of the Beijing Jeep! Anything mech/elec to worry about? Here is the one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-Jimny- ... 20bc3eccff
dollywobbler Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 They're pretty highly regarded, even if the on-road dynamics aren't perfect. Very good off-road and reliable too, so values remain strong for them. Mind you, I wouldn't put it past them to develop nasty rot in places, so I'd keep it full of anti-corrosion wax.
lovejoy Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Morning Tom - a lot of those here on this island, ex-rental, a friend of SWIMBO has one with over 200,000 on, they are only 2-wheel drive,as others have said, awful ride, short wheelbase, but no real weak points it seems. it'll fit in the bed of your "GREATWALLS" !!
face Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I like Jimny's. Hired one on many occassions in Kefalonia for Mount Aenos climbing expeditions. Tough as old boots. Not great on road, but perfectly OK to drive and they have a bit of character. Not that great on fuel, and the tax isn't cheap for a 1.3 either. I'm considering one for my next runabout as I only do about 5k per year. The soft tops are a bit of a pain to take on and off, but nothing major.
baldrickthecunning Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Isn't it a little pricey for something with 81k?
eddyramrod Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 That's approaching Cyprus price! We've had a couple on rental and they're ideal over here, but we owned a Samurai in England in 98, where it just wasn't right. The hardtop one might be better, as you're getting a proper little hatchback, but with extra ability. Soft tops, as you've seen above, are a pain to remove and refit. Suzuki engines are strong and powerful for their size, but watch for oil leaks, our Samurai was up to A-Series standard for that! As a shopping trolley for the Boss? Yes, do it. Possibly not that one, but I'm not in a position to judge it closely. Go and look, try it out.
babydriver Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 These are very good reliable cars, very bumpy ride and very thirsty on juice also be aware that road tax is £235 even though its a small engine, Watch out for the rust bug as one I had was only 5 years old and it started showing and also the brake lines get rusty fast on these. I managed to keep mine going through the advisories at mot time with a wire brush and wipe with clean engine oil. The engine sound mightyer than the 1.3 that these are, more like a mini range rover
ChinaTom Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Went to view, but sold FOB Guinea Bissau this morning. Dang me breaches. Tootled over to Norfolk Motor Group and test drove one the used ones on the forecourt - loved it. Decided to get one, but will get on it when I get back from the next stint overseas. Any post 2007 model seems to be over £7k - may even get a new one. Ta for the advice - I'll drag up this thread again in early March to post a pic of the one I buy.
Lacquer Peel Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I'm pretty amused that these are still in production, sold in the UK and no one has really noticed, they are on the same technological level as a Land Rover Defender (live axles at both ends, ladder chassis, etc.) I'm glad it still exists sticking two fingers up to all of the pseudo 4x4s.
