I'm bored with the Accord, it's been ...well... Japanese. It starts every morning, everything still works, even when I open the bonnet hoping to have something to do, all I end up with is a half empty washer bottle, so its got to go.

I love mid engined 2 seaters, and am all done with X1/9's, so I had a good long think about all the small mid engined 2 seaters, that aren't Japanese and after a few days of weighing up my options I decided I need an MGF in my life. I'm an ex Rover tech, so know all about the problems, and have fettled quite a few over the years, but somehow they have always been a bit under the radar for me, seeing them as a bit of a poor relation to the Bertone :o

Anyway, keep your eyes peeled for me- don't mind a bit of work, don't do green ( 3 accidents,3 green cars- see a pattern? ) not fussed about VVC, oh, and about £500 tops- that my usual shite ceiling.

Anyone fancy an Accord?

Seriously, check the mingebag bit of Retro-Rides cars for sale section. Someone's been trying to offload an MG on there for ages and is probably at the stage where he's swap it for a boiled sweet and a used stamp.

Here you go:

Do Honda's have an electrical system wirelessly connected to Autoshite? The alternator packed in this morning on the way to work.. first sign was an ABS light on, then the dials dying, and finally losing Chris Evans and getting a missfire. Made it in,just, but alternator putting nothing out at all- factors is 153 quid+VAt. Bugger.

150 sounds way too much. I bought a brand new one for 115 including VAT and postage, there were recon ones on ebay for 75 or so. I can't imagine yours being bigger/more complicated than the 100 amp one I bought for the Scorpio.

Size and complication are not how the suppliers/makers set the prices for them though is it.

I wish you were right, but thats the price.. specific to the mk6 98-02 Accord, 90 amp. I have trade accounts with all the larger motor factors, and have checked Ebay worldwide and no joy so far. Annoyingly the up to 98, and 02 on alternators can be had cheaper..

I even found replacement brushes along with regulator etc, but even this is over 60 quid.

I'm suuuurrrreee Rover/MG/K-series share the same fittings.

I was looking for an MR2 AW11 one, and they cost up to 200 quid new. I had a spare MGF alternator and, blow me, it fit perfectly (fittings, belt, et al).

All sorted now- 30 quid from the scrappies and its pumping out amps again. Its a Bosch unit, and cross refers to nothing but the 98-02 Accord. Older Accord uses a 4 pin plug, and is the same as Rover 600.

For info-

Lucas number is: LRA 02024

Bosch replacement: 0124325006

Honda original: 31100-PDA -E01.

MGF 1.8:

They do look rather similar! MGF is 85 amp, Toyota is 70 Amp.
