Sealing a sunroof - yes, it's a Renault!

Funnily enough, a friend of mine has just mentioned that he's got a '96 Clio rsi with this very problem. Un fortunately, his leak seems to have buggered up the immobiliser. He's tried drying out the receiver in the roof, with no luck. Anyone any bright ideas??

Ah yes. On the old ones, the receiver for the remote IR signal sits in the prime position to fill with water! It can be started by inputting the emergency immobiliser code using the central locking button. A new receiver for the remote usually does the trick, I have a few of them for when it inevitably hits one of my diamonds.

Of course! Go the dealer, give them your VIN and they have to supply you with a four digit emergency immobiliser code FOC.

Say for instance the code is 8432 (as mine was). Turn the ignition on, the little red light on the interior central locking button will be flashing rapidly because the immobiliser is still active. Press and hold the side with the light on (the lock side) and the light will start doing slow flashes - this is the count for the first digit. So - the first digit is 8 - hold it until it has done 8 flashes, release, then immediately hold again until it flashes for the number of times for the next digit (4 in this case), then release, straight back on the button for 3 flashes, release, back on for 2, release, the light will go out and you can start the car! However, this needs done EVERYTIME you start the car.... it's a pain in the hole.

Also - on some cars, I don't know if it's dependent on age or engine, but you need to hold and the lock button AND push the accelerator to the floor to get it to enter the code input mode. Good luck! Hopefully those instructions are clear enuff :)

Yeah, +1 for gaffer tape. Worked a treat on an old Rover 800 I had - until water started pissing through the top of the windscreen, that is...

I noticed a few days ago that the passenger footwell of my low milage 54 reg Clio was soaking. I left a towel in the footwell all day to mop up what was there and after a few hours the towel was drenched. Both of my Clios have had water leaking into the car and nothing seems to stop it. :(

The tape has worked beautifully. No leaks, it's all still stuck down, and doesn't actually look too obvious or shit.

As for the footwell, you need to pull back the carpet and take out the foam insulation underneath - it will be WRINGING wet, there's no point in just trying to dry the carpet above as it'll just keep absorbing everything from underneath
