Happy Christmas Eve Shiters!

Santa came early for me yesterday and brought this spiffing Laguna Estate with him!

Here's the story:

Was flicking through Gumtree yesterday and spotted the ad. "Cheap Renault Laguna Estate".... and cheap it was. £175 to be exact. Seeing as my largely plastic shit heap of an Espace weighed in for £215 a few weeks ago this is BOUND to worth that, if not more in metal value, so straight on the phone I was! Jumped in the car, made my way across Belfast at rush hour, and back home in the dream boat.

This guy bought the car with 30,000 miles in 2000 - paid £6995, the invoice is within the service history! Mileage now???

Yup. 207,486. And it still works!!

2.0 Petrol RT, AC model so plenty of added weight for crossing the bridge. Manky inside, sunroof must leak as the rear footwells are damp. No fifth gear (who needs that?) and the boot doesn't open.

Failed it's MOT on 5th of December on the following:

Nearside front headlamp - beam pattern incorrect/distorted

Offside front headlamp - Aim too low

Nearside rear seam weld repairs - sill - rusteaten/holed

Exhaust system - leaking excessively (Yes, it's loud)

Offside front lower suspension joint worn excessively

Offside front spring broken

Brake pipes not sufficiently clean

Load sensing/Regulating Valve assembly seized - rear

FAR too much to work through on such a car, I know. But it seems such a shame. This old girl has reached 207k, still driving perfectly well and has LOADS left to give. An EXCELLENT work horse. But getting it legal just isn't doable.

So looks like it's straight over the bridge in the new year for a profit. I'll feel a right bastard but there isn't really another option.

If anyone needs Laguna parts give me a shout.

They are quite good looking those Laguna Estates. There is a bloke around my area who has an R-reg one in White. Seems a shame to send over the bridge but if thats where its heading........

It would be right to sell it to somone who could use it as a parts car/do up themselves, sadly I think there isnt that many people out there willing to shell out at this time.

That's in far better condition than the similar one (a 1.8 ex-taxi in a slightly darker shade of red with 160,000 miles) that some friends of mine offloaded earlier this year for £400. They replaced it with 1993 Cavalier, as the man of the house likes old Vauxhalls :)

Shame, it looks quite nice! Dirty brake pipes was a fail point? Is fifth gear broken or just not fitted?

Laguna in broken gearbox shocker!

It'd be a shame to weigh that in, with that sort of mileage it deserves a second chance but obv. bangernomics means it'd probably never be worth it financially just because of the gearbox.

Exactly, the bangernomics idea means the head has to rule over heart on this one. I'm going to take the cash straight up to the yard where that Laguna V6 is still decaying and see if I can tempt him with physical cash. Granted, this Laguna is probably in better nick than the V6.

Yes, 5th gear has just disappeared. There's not the slightest hint of it being there, it's just like neutral.

In the mean time it's making a great dog car. Had him in a muddy field today and just lobbed him straight onto the passenger seat after.

I do like them Lagunas. Quite a nice thing to live as well.

As much as its a shame its not really worth sorting though. Across the bridge it is.
