Scanning negatives.

I've got an album full of 35mm negatives of my Dad's photos from the '70s to the mid '90s, so I thought I'd try scanning them. There's not a great deal of shite content to be fair, but I thought I'd post up what there is...

Below is the result of a quick first attempt this evening. Obviously I don't expect the quality to be great, but any tips to improve the results would be gladly received.

I believe this Mini belonged to a friend of my Dad's. The one behind it might have been his.

Hey, nice one. I had a bit of a fiddle with colour and saturation levels and what not, but my results clearly nowhere near as good as yours... Mind you, it would help if I had a faster computer; I think I would struggle to run a program like photoshop on my laptop.

was just a quick 'auto colour' and 'autocontrast' cleanup, you can also clean out the scratchs and noise

I'm using Picasa. Obvioulsy not as clever as Photoshop.

Anyway, here's another:

What are you scanning them with?

35mm scanner? Flatbed with film attachment?

You really need a scanner which shines light downwards through the film rather than upwards like a normal scanner.

I bought myself a nice film scanner last year (in retrospect, not a good idea  ) If you're prepared to trust your negatives to the post I'd be happy to scan some of them properly for you.

That's very generous of you. Thanks.

I may have a good look through and take out the ones I'd like to scan. In the meantime I'll continue to have a play around; I think cleaning the glass may help!
