Car derived vans

The most fucked-up van has to be the BT-issue Ford Ka van. Seriously, I could fit more in the glovebox of my Xantia.

EFA :D

Cheap tax on car derived vans in Ireland I take it?

You know how small those Xantia gloveboxes are. Designed to hold a pair of gloves...

Road tax on any van under 3500kg is €280 a year, which is less than half what the Xantia costs me a year

That looks like the custom mating of Torana front panels to a Bedford Chevanne , which was sold in Australia as the Holden Gemini van.

You're right there

But no not about Chevanne - no Chevannes were exported, just the rear panels (likewise GM UK bought-in the Camira rear panels for Cavalier Estate). Gemini were locally-built using Isuzu mechanicals. In fact, GM Australia advertised them as such.

I borrowed a Gemini off my cousin for a bit when I lived in Perth. Drove differently, with less in common than I thought.

And this is from him - It is an import from Holland. It is a genuine factory van, not a homemade conversion, has no rear seats and a steel floor.I dont think they ever made any right hand drive ones. Its not an Ambulance, the upturned dinghy on the roof is for Holland, as it increases the volume to allow it to be classed a commercial vehicle, which means cheap road tax there. Its fibreglass so when the rest rots away beneath it,it can be a useful garden ornament or indeed a boat. The original roof is cut away inside, so its really useful to carry doors etc

A friend of mine in Holland bought it, abused it even more than it had been previously and was going to take it to the scrapyard (where it wouldn't have looked out of place), but I just had to have it. It snapped its crank on the motorway in Holland. I enjoyed being towed in it through customs by one of those yellow tractors with a revolving orange lamp. They accused me of drug smuggling...probably assuming I must have been on something to have such a thing...and it being broken at that. Since then its had another engine, clutch, exhaust, brakes, starter motor, bonnet, one wing, 4 doors, 2 chassis rails at the back, one back panel, sills and inner sills, floor, wheelarches,a tailgate, all the lights,2 seats, door cards and a carpet, 5 wheels and tyres ...and now the fresh paint .

Its a '91 1.8td.....but I have another one just like it that's an '88 2.3 indenor,but in a worse state ! I plead insanity.
