^^^ Same engine as the GAZ Volga. low on HP but plenty of low down torque, pretty much unburstable

1300cc mk 1 capri was dire

1700cc Ford Consul (mk 2) in my case) was almost as bad

my dad had a Renault 12 which had a 1200cc motor and auto box, but there again it wasn;'t a particularly big car, just underpowered

does the Mazda RX7 count? don't you work out wankel CC's differantly or something?

with a wankel engine you're not really comparing like with like..a twin rotor wankel may only have a swept volume of something like 997cc but will produce the power of a conventional 2000cc. and use the fuel of a conventional 5000cc. something to do with less frictional losses due to lack of vibration and lack of moving parts I guess.

Have we had marina vans with the 1098cc engine yet?

I don't know if anyone's ever driven a mk 1 Renault megane diesel in its non turbo guise, but that has to be the slowest car I've driven, bar my old '81 Renault 4 TL (first car !) I can't get my head round how they managed to get so little grunt out of what I assume was a standard 1.9 lump, or else the car must have weighted loads. After my R4 I owned a '91 escort 1.8D that could have passed for a right little tyre burner in comparison.

I know of the BX with the 1.1 engine for the Greek market, I remember Cavaliers and Sierras with 1.3 push rod donkeys, but what else out there was there / is there with a tiny engine for a big car to make motoring a misery?

Skoda Octavia 1.4? 59hp of utter misery.

Only bought by old giffers to drive down to the post office on pension day...

I believe they do a Lithuanian cop spec 1.3 in the current model which has 69hp. NOT GR8 4 chasing bad guyz.

Not really shite, but the Ferrari 208. 2 litre N/A V8 @ 155BHP. Produced for Italy and New Zealand primarily, due to crippling taxes on cars over 2 litre.

Ferrari owners were highly pissed off at getting dusted by Capris and Mantas, so from 1982 the 208 was turbocharged.

How about US-tuned MGBs? Something like 65bhp towards the end. Not exactly sporty is it?
