254575 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 BBC F1 coverage gets 10 million viewers, Sky have 10 million UK customers roughly 1/3 of them take the sports package, how long before the sponsors realise it's a backward step? Who cares about the UK audience when it's all sponsored by the likes of Petronas and the Chinese arm of UBS? this also applies to football, who cares if mr flat cap cannot get in to see t'lads, when they have corporate boxes full of pished execs, £1000+ per head give it 10 years and stadia will be all corporate boxes!

But do the likes of Sheffield Wednesday have £1000+ boxes? These things are for top clubs who make billions on the TV deals...they only keep the 'spirit' of the terraces because the viewers want it!
Tonka Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I'm not defending the BBC, I am p*ssed off because I already pay to watch F1 through my license fee and refuse to stump up any more money so next year I'll use that part of my weekend to go to a show or work on my cars. The point I am making is maybe loss of sponsorship (along with pressure on so many UK based businesses that currently support F1) and the inevitable trust issues may work in favour of a return to the BBC or an ITV/BBC Coalition (they are popular at the moment). I am not a big sport fan hence don't bother with Sky Sports, it's probably got a finite life anyway, once HMRC and other financial institutions catch up with all the Premiership Clubs on their arse, and players start to earn something nearer the minimum wage reality might just kick in, it's a shame Murdoch didn't get full control of Sky, under the seizure of assets once the truth comes out it could be broken up and sold off to help pay all the out of court settlements..............

Together with shitty uni degrees, football is the only mass-market 'product' we export to China (and other parts of Asia). They won't touch it.
Tonka Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Oh well I might as well sell everything and move to Monaco.................
overheadvalve Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 How have rule changes stopped British drivers winning in F1? Brits have won the last two races!WRC may have only two cars in it, but that makes it more about the drivers. All of whom I find charming and very interesting to watch.Dolly, the rules were changed for the British GP alone and then reverted back to the pre silverstone ruling....pretty ridiculous really. Is was something to do with the exhaust blowing through the diffuser and hindered Mclaren massively...but Ferrari not one bit as they did not have the system on their car...strange that.Strange? Yes to the average person, but not when you realise why. Ferrari have been in it from the start and seem to me to think they own the sport. One and only one team has managed to compete with and on several occasions beat Ferrari over the last three or so decades, with any consistency. The stat that Ferrari cannot beat is that this team have won 1 in 4 races, very impressive. So to make it difficult for them and thus enable Ferrari to keep it's status as the No1 team, who are a byeword for succesful F1 racing they have several old hands working for the FIA Jean Todt is just one of them, they piss and moan at every opportunity about any advantage this succesful British team may or may not have.Ferrari International Assistance? You bet!The point? When Sky get the F1 they will probably give Ferrari twice the amount of cash that they give to the sucessful British team and four or five times the amount of cash that they give the likes of less succesful British, French, German, Indian(?) teams , which in my opinion is quite unfair. I do have Sky tv, my wife likes it. I pay around £60 a month for it, with HD too but it's mostly shite as far as i'm aware, i watch The Profesional's and The Sweeney (for obvious reasons) but they are on ITV4 and it's free.BBC F1 coverage gets 10 million viewers, Sky have 10 million UK customers roughly 1/3 of them take the sports package, how long before the sponsors realise it's a backward step? You never know young Master Murdoch might end up incapable of chairing the Sky board if the legal system gets it's act together, bit of bad publicity here and there and it might just end up somewhere else, probably UK Gold or Dave,...... Anybody remember Live TV with topless darts, bouncing weather men and banger racing............................. its the BBC that have screwed people over, not Sky.plus, if sky subscription was compulsory im sure they would have 10 million f1 viewers.the rabid defense of the BBC in this country baffles me. yes they produce some quality stuff, but you would hope so for £3.45bn a year I think you will find, whatever is printed, Ecclestone wants the money, he did the chasing and is looking to make another potfull of cash. See what Murray Walker said in a recent interview.....waits for spygate jibes
Station Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 The problem with F1 is that Murray Walker no longer commentates and the drivers don't do enough drinking and shagging. Not f1 but:
