Great stuff. My rents used to have a Favorit and I remember bloody hating it at the time (sensitive teenage flower). Now I lust after the things - especially the estates. The engines sounded really distinctive - quite a tappety top end.

I ran this for about 2 years, was a GLXiE Flairline(!) It was great fun, revy little engine and comedy body roll... I scrapped it after it suffered epic head gasket failure. Got £25, collected IIRC.

If you want that engine sound, the 1.3 Felicia has the same. Mine went after it suffered epic head gasket failure. Plausible that it's a weak point...

My father's neighbour used to have an H-reg Favorit identical in every way to the one in the road test article. It never gave her any trouble during the ten years she owned it :)

We had a S reg Skoda S110R coupe in 1984. It had a black vinyl roof and grey fur seat covers? I was only nine but I distinctly remember it having loads more dials on the dash than our Morris 1800 it replaced.

Dad used to put a sandbags in the front boot in the snow.

We traded it in for a Renault 14 at a local garage, it got stolen from the forecourt and was later found abandonded. The police came round at two o'clock in the morning as it was still in our name to ask why we had abandoned it at the side of the road. Mum gave them a bollocking for waking us up at that time of the morning, I was only ten and quite frightened by the flashlights shining through the front door and general commotion!!

I suppose it was a bit unfair as they were doing their job!

Shit man I really wish I could have another opportunity to buy an Estelle or Rapid. Kicking myself for not getting one as my first or second car in the 1990s when there were many on the secondhand market.

I wonder what an Estelle 105 would have cost me to insure as an 18 year old back in September 1995? Hopefully no more than the '79 Mini 1000 I had. I think that as a 17/18/19 year old I was too concerned about my self image and that girls might be put off by me owning a Skoda.:mrgreen: I don't give a shit about my self image these days - but that is the way of Autoshite. :P

I love that orange and black Skoda in the advert. 8) Here's the Estelle my sister and her then hubby had in the early 1990s:

Just after my sister and hubby broke up, he gave her the second car, a blue Yugo 45a to use (he kept the Fiat Tempra SX). My sister thought that the Yugo was shit and so sold it for a K reg Skoda Favorit 136. When she took some strong prescription drugs one day, I was asked by my parents to drive her home in her car and I must admit I didn't like it much. The steering wheel was thin and unpleasant to touch, as was the angular chocolate brown interior. :(

:) I love it that I'm surrounded by RWD Skodas every day at home, work and my barn in a field despite them being pretty rare now! :D
