So, the Leon is still broked. My current transport alternates between Stagecoach's finest and an 09 plate 1.6 TDCI Focus.

 

At which point I get offered a 1972 Beetle. It's my mate's, I watched it go through a full resto at Bughaus in Nottingham who are one of the better specialists. It does need wings though, they fitted pattern parts which never fitted well and have started bubbling but apart from that it's in good nick. Recon 1600 engine about 1000 miles ago. Interior is a bit shabby, it's got my old Golf GTI seats in though. Oh, and a couple of grands worth of drag-spec six point cage built by one of the best cage builders in the business, the plan once was for him to race it with a big motor and he was planning ahead. He reckons he's spent £10k over the past eight years and to be honest it shows.

 

Hmmmm. I think he'll let it go for £600.

 

Hmmmmm. Once the Leon is moving under it's own power, I've got driveway space.

Jeez, I thought the days of sub-1K bugs were long gone. By any standards that's cheap tax free motoring and you'll deffo make your money back +loads when you come to flog it.

It's a sad tale, after health problems he's having to go bankrupt and the bug is the last thing to go. He can't let it go for less than market value, but who decides what market value is on a non-tested, modified 1970s Beetle? At one point he got drunk and offered me it for £1 but the law is an ass, I'd get chased for it if they decided he'd given it away.

 

All it needs is a big engine and it'd be a BIT WEAPON, LIKE.

Any Beetle that’s got heater channels made of metal is worth more than £600. Go for it, you could probably get it running for half the Leon’s repair bill
