Isn't the Escort a 1600 though Pete?

Nope, tis a 1300 Spurt.

It'll be a 2.0 as soon as I get the chance though

Unless you 're planning to get rid of a car soon and can't be bothered to go through refunds and whatnot, the 6-month tax option is equivalent to getting a loan from the gov't at 20% APR.

I only get 2% or whatever for my savings, so if anyone wants I'll happily finance the purchase of a 12-month disc for JUST 19%.

Not too arsed to be honest as I can still drive it whenever I want and it's nice to have a back up car. Also it's a pian trying to flog an untaxed cars because people make such a fuss about it.

I'm with you on the Astra...at the end of the day, you're selling it and, especially at this end of the market, I can see a lot of punters not being good enough at maths to realise that half a year's extra rent is about a quarter of the value of the car. But people have commented about buying 6-month discs for cars they're planning to keep, and I find it a bit baffling- it's not like we aren't being raped by the state in 4927349237 ways...

Ah right, with you there. I almost always tax mine for 6 months as I change them like the weather so 12 months seems like 12 years to me.

I don't ever plan on keeping a car, and find they're a lot easier to sell with tax than without.

Spending an extra tenner or whatever buying six month discs is worth it compared to buying a 12 month disc and then flogging the car after 3 months (like I tend to). I bought the Jag when it had four months of tax on it, and the Jeep also had four months tax, so I've only taxed both of 'em once. Adding 12 months tax to a car that is being sold is just insanity, but leaving 3-4 months on doesn't feel quite as bad.

I can't remember the last car I taxed for a year.
