Peugeot is planing a low cost brand ( à la Dacia )

There's alot of companies sitting on many many old names, BMW lays claim to Triumph (cars) and Riley, NAC/SAIC or somesuch Chinese company have Morris/Wolseley/MG, IIRC Vanden Plas is missing in inaction as well.

I'd love them all to come back but for now the old BMC/Rootes brands are well and truly consigned to the history books! :(

I'd kind of assumed from the thread title, that Pug would do what Renault have been doing for years in E.Europe, and selling made-over versions of old models, at knock-down prices.

Actually there was a lot of new development on the Logan. It does have some of the more durable parts of other renaults but a lot of it was new.

It was designed to be very durable with good ground clearance, be capable of withstanding the weather extreems of eastern europe and western asia and be easy/cheap to make and cheap'ish to sell.

This is exactly what PSA does in China, Brazil, Argentina etc.

We have a Peugeot 408 out here. Has that arrived in UK yet?

Actually, that's not it. It is quite nice, but then cars look different in different surroundings.

Ah, that's better. Maybe that should be a dealer fit option.

A more robustly built 405 would have helped too.

Were 405s badly built? I haven't found them to be.

They weren't badly built, but they weren't any better than other cars of the day. Peugeots should be.

If you look at http://www.peugeotnigeria.com/ you'll see that the 406 is still made and sold in some markets.

The 406 would be an excellent budget car.

Speaking of 406s...

I haven't seen one for ages, but on the way back from Musical Offspring's rehearsal this morning saw three on the same roundabout
