VSCC Pomeroy Trophy - Silverstone

On the 26th I went down to Silverstone to see the assembled VSCC faithful slop around in the February gloom. These are the photos I have to give a flavour - although images can't really convey the sheer diversity of vehicles involved.

When I'm less tired \ busy \ dehydrated I'll post the rest up. I had a number of camera disasters, namely to do with my utter failure to pack a set of spare batteries. So if you expect the normal IX 20 \ phone camera deluge, you won't be far off.

The Pomeroy is a bit special, isn't it? I remember the guy with the Triumph 2000 in C&SC wondering how he could change his (factory) front discs for drums because they gave more points or something.

Is 271 YUA a Tatra?

It’s a 1948 Tatra T87 V8, borrowed by VSCC’S Steve Allen

And a Peerless always looks good on the track 8)

Ok, here's some more. I'm really tired at this precise moment, so I'll caption these later. I'm off now to dream of F-stops and their proper usage in a racing context.

Is 271 YUA a Tatra?

271 YUA is a Tatra Type 87. It has an aircooled 2.5 litre V8 mounted aft of the axle. It succeeded the teardrop T77 that are now so rare their export out of the Czech Republic is forbidden. The same goes for the Type 97 of which the production run was forcibly halted by the Nazis to avoid competition with the KDF Wagen. Type 87s, 603s and 613s are fairly easy to come by, but their prices are are bordering on the stratospheric. I'm sure if I had the readies one of Pete-M's many contacts could help me - after all, Butch found me a beautiful Tesla Talisman!

The car pictured her belonged to one of the VSCC officials. It vied with the blue B20 Aurelia as my favourite car of the event. Both will have been heavily penalised under the arcane rulebook that defines the Pomeroy Trophy itself.

By way of a counterpoint, ask Seth what he'd do to an Aurelia B20 Coupe if he had the chance......... :D

Here is a picture of Paul H, who took me to the Pom in his Amazon estate. He stressed the importance of highly tuned B20 engines and how significant a role they had to play in my life. He was sponsored by Sony Ericsson.

A friend of mine has a T97, it’s a wonderful little thing.

Prices asked are high, but T603s and T613s are often on sale for a looong time at those prices.

Prices will have risen sharply since I sold my 603 and 613 of course, that’s the way it works

Great pics, love that Delage. And Tatra. And Aurelia (sans mirrors). And the stuffed weasel. Is that a Pom requirement, four seats, room for suitcases, a hood and a weasel?

I think the latter is down to Dougal Cawley from Longstone being a bit of a mentalist. His brother took a Dorchester Scorpio limo round the track, to the cries of 'Unlimited at Hedensford' or some such.
