myglaren Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Does that old services still exist a few miles north of Scotch Corner at the junction where the motorway restarts? I used to ride my moped down the road from Piercebridge to there and nip in to top up the petrol before joining the A1 south down to my grans. It was a proper old truck stop and had potholes which would have swallowed the bike whole if I wasn't careful. Seemed the sort of place for a well priced fry up though. Yes, still there last time I passed a few weeks ago. It does look rather rough and ready and there didn't appear to be many customers.
worldofceri Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Today I delivered 144 cases of branded bottled water to a petrol staion at a motorway services. Cost to the operater? 1p per case (6 x 500ml bottles) - plus VAT. Yes, that's right; one penny! I think they'll sell them for a quid or something which is good for an MSA but that's still over £800 pure profit there. I suppose I should add that this was a special deal because they were the best performing site in the country last year or something. Even so, I can't understand how the supplier can make any money out of a deal like that.
