.

I remember in the early 60's going on a car/sleeper from Aberdeen to London with our Rover 14. Although the cars were in closed wagons.

For a nine year old this was frigging EPIC !

Cars! Trains! Cars going on trains! Sleeping on trains! I don't remember wetting myself but it must have been bloody close.

I'm sure it was a steam jobby as well, which would have raised the excitement level to near overload.

I was , obviously, going to stay awake all night so I didn't miss any of this, the most amazing thing to happen " IN MY LIFE".

Yeeaah ! Right ! Next thing being woken for brekkies, as we approached that London.

A plus point was, I managed to snag the top bunk when my sis decided I wasn't worth beating up to get it.

That, to me as a 9 yr old, was travelling in style.

First time I stamped my foot against going on holiday with the Family they decided to do the Highlands in our new FD Victor 2000 estate.   By Motorail from Brockenhurst to Inverness.

The year before we had crammed in an HB Viva and suffered a week in a Tupperware caravan at Selsey Bill.

Final straw was being curfewed at my Grandmother's each night because apparently I couldn't be trusted at 14 in an empty house with "the kind of friends I had".

I still get an Elvis on my top lip when I see cars on trains.
