BL/Austin Rover parts compatability

amigos,

I am often challenged in my ability to source parts for my Sherpa van. One of the reasons for this is that it is old and most have dissolved but another reason is that the Sherpa was cobbled together from the AR parts bin - the roof and panels are J4, the door handles are mini, the gear box is from an austin 3lt and the engine is the B series.

I am very keen to find out if anyone knows if there is a parts compatibility resource somewhere - this would save serious time in tracking down bits - for example I am concerned about the condition of the rear doors - they will have to be replaced at some point - are these from another vehicle - were they used in later versions of the same van?

does anyone now if such a document is avaliable?

cheers

I would have thought the rear doors would be pretty much the same for models up to the Pilot perhaps or at least compatible. These have different handle arrangements to the Freight Rover/LDV 200 don't they??

Rear doors (the panelwork, not sure about the handles/locks) were the same from 1975 up to the introduction of the LDV Pilot. The Pilot doors had a different outer pressing and handle arrangement, although they would probably fit.

So any narrow bodied Sherpa/Freight Rover/ Leyland Daf/LDV van up to 1997 or so. This model was called the Freight Rover/Leyland DAF 200 after the Sherpa name was dropped.

Thanks

Technically my one is a "leyland van from Austin morris" a mk1 with a silver grill. The Sherman name was introduced after a year

I found the PIG pretty useless when they first printed it to be honest. I seem to remember it telling me useful things like Morris Oxford ignition parts were the same as Austin Cambridge ones..

I've never come across any published works on interchangability. Its just a matter of using some common sense and asking around. Though I suppose what station has said, re. parts catalogues might potentially help.

found a blinding place in Chorley

Autofast ltd - specialise in new old stock for obsolete commercial british vans - have a wealth of knowledge especially about bodywork which is the nightmare - mechanics are pretty straightforward
