Lankytim Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Just taken this in part exchange for my silver 940 turbo and need to punt it on quickly. Its a 1991 940 saloon in metallic dark blue, rare 2.3 16 valve manual overdrive, blue interior, 114k on the clock. Its had the headgasket done about 10k ago and runs and drives very well. Bodywise its got the odd scrape, dent and scratch but is very presentable and would drive anywhere. It has the later 940 style 15" alloys on it from the "last of the line" models. Serviced regularly by a Volvo specialist and has a long MOT, no TAX. Ideal as daily transport or as an engine donor thanks to its excellent 16v engine. Pics and more info to follow. £300 ONO but may consider breaking....
Lankytim Posted October 24, 2010 Author Posted October 24, 2010 Come on chaps! any interest? If I get any more Volvo 940's I may turn them into a stone henge type arrangement.

garethj Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 1991 is too new for me (by a year) but what are the 700 / 900 like generally? Are they tough and easy to fix, or would my life be plagued by strange electrical faults like crank sensors and corroded engine management plugs? There's a 2.3 turbo estate on ebay, have they really got 182bhp?
Lankytim Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Old Volvos are generally very reliable, this particular 940 had a crank sensor go down a few years ago but that about it. They never seem to break down and always fly through MOTs. Very barge like though. They are totally conventional RWD with a solid rear axle, coil springs at the rear and McPherson struts up front and are very easy to work on and fix. They are a bit of a throwback from the early '80s really. The earlier 740/760 turbos did indeed produce 180 BHP or therabouts.
Richard Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 They are a bit of a throwback from the early '80s really. More like '70s really. We had a 1976 244 and there's no real difference between that and my 1995 940.
