Car advice

I'm after some impartial advice here.

I currently have working the following vehicles

all t&T'd

Citroen XM 2.1TD SX - just had a shedload of work including HG and timing belt

smart roadster - t&t but broken with knackered alternator, plus needs some other issues sorted

vx Astra - cabrio - horrible but starts every time

Motorhome - doesn't get used much but needs to be road legal

I have another XM which has not been used for five years but will be road legal with full MoT on tuesday.

I am selling both Honda Z600s and scrapping the third one.

Now, selling the Hondas gives me space in the carport (enclosed on 3 sides) and means I can put the smart in to fit the alternator (engine part out job to do it), but I can do a bit more to it and 'restore' it after a hard five years of it being the everyday car.

SHould I keep the extra XM as my second car, while doing the smart or should I punt it?

It has a fsh, is in a very nice metallic green and failed its Mot on rear spheres and brakes plus emissions, but brakes and spheres are sorted and it is awaiting a rocker gasket to cure a leak and then is ready. Other than that, it is rust free and may prove to be reliable ...

Should it stay or should it go?

It does sound like you don't really need it, you do have another so punt it! Unless you love it of course!

Why are you scrapping the third Z600?

The third Z is a very, very rusty, almost stripped parts car - the engine and suspensions need to come out and it is then a bare shell

the Astra is SWMBO's car and I like the idea of a spare vehicle just in case - fleet insurance has its perks.

I could lay the smart up for the winter too.

If its not costing anything extra to just have it laid up awaiting potential use then keep it. But if you are having to spend money on it then whats the point? Personally I'd be selling it.

I bought it a month ago for £200 - to MoT it will cost £200 in total, so it's a luxobarge for £400. I fancy using it for a while then scrapping it if anything major happens - the spares will be useful
