crossflow shite

i dismantled a siezed and waterlogged crossflow today

 

took the head off to discover pistons had been whacked with a chisel.....

then after removing the sump plug....

whipped the sump off to find a small circular pice of metal wedged in the crank (out of focus on top of the oil filter)

once removed, the engine freely again

Grim! Who had chiselled the piston?

 

On a related note, I saw my mate's 1400 16v Corsa engine from his rally Nova yesterday. His spannerman had whipped the head off to show what changing from second to first at full pelt does....

 

Needs: 16 valves, four pistons, and all six bolts holding the flywheel on had sheared. Ouch.
