I did a big old collect today and it looks like this... (VW T25 Camper)

Wow — has it really been since April already? Time flies when you’re doing 55 miles an hour having fun.

Not a huge amount to report, really. I’ve chucked a service and a fair bit of fuel at it, and it’s mostly been doing duty for holidays and general pottering about. I took it the length of the UK over the summer and came away with a few thoughts:
a) it could do with a bit more soundproofing,
b) it pulls slightly to the left, and
c) when you’re knackered after a long drive, power steering suddenly seems like a very good idea.

So that’s the current to-do list. I’d also like to fit some sympathetic solar, lithium batteries, and maybe a petrol heater — if I can find one at a sensible price. Part of me is tempted to start collecting bits for a spare engine build, just so I can thrash down the motorway with slightly more recklessness. And one day, purely for the japes, I’d love to have a go at an Arduino-based EFI setup.

A weakness of these is the heater since you're relying on exhaust heat exchangers, and indeed this one didn't seem great. I also couldn't stem the flow of freezing air through the dash vents. Coincidence? Calibrating all the control cables means I can now properly shut off the fresh air flow and as a result it can even generate some quite fierce heat with only the faintest wiff of engine.

Overall though, I feel very fortunate — it’s such a lovely, well-sorted example. Credit to the previous owner, who clearly cared more about making it work than making it shiny. Hooray!

Yes the van shape is so pure without a camper top. Would love some more power/better MPG's on the open road but the air cooled engine is delightful when pottering about.
