new shite on the block - '09 Micra

Eh up guys - been a while.

Just bought an '09 Micra w/ 57k on it, £1200. So not a bargain, by any stretch. But v. solid undercarriage w/ slight crease on passenger door.

I've never driven one before, but a couple of years ago I did buy an '06 Punto for DD#1. The Micra is for DD#2, btw. In any case, the Fiat acclimatised me somewhat to crumple-zone free clown cars, and I thought ooh yeah actually these sorts of cars are potentially chuckable af. The 1.240cc "power"plant of the Micra isn't exactly fleet of foot, and overtakes have to be planned half an hour in advance, but so what. That's it's only vice thus far, or so it seems. It's roomier than you'd think, the seats are comfy (even the rear ones are okay, so I'm told), the engine is yeah ok, revvy. But quiet as owt round town. Did have to get a pair of drop links for a ton 20 though, and tbf it probably needs some bushes too.

Basically, though, I'm finding it hard to dislike this granny mobile. Roadholding is ace. I already embarrassed an eager, hostile even, Audi on our local technical B-road. Although once you get properly committed, the bonnet does look very non-existent.

One thing: The horn is absolute pants. More like an electronic microwave beeper. I'm assuming it wouldn't take much to swap out with some sort of slightly more meaningful / audible sounding duo tone thingy?? I'll see if there's such a thing as a Micra forum and find out if anyone else has seen fit to upgrade that part.

Welcome back! I think you would be pretty safe to just go ahead and bolt in a cheapy dual horn from eBay/Amazon etc, on the two successive Qashqais that passed through my hands this was the first upgrade I carried out as a result of the stock item being so weedy.

Some say you need to plumb in a relay due to the extra current drawn but after trawling through various Nissan forums I concluded it wasn’t necessary, just run a second pair of wires off the original connector plug.
