I'm now setting out my plans for *stick welding a new pipe [onto the Mazda box] and sorting a bracket to allow the box to sit on the two Vx rubber bobbins >> per standard.

However will be sparkly tomozz (until lunchtime) so Oil + Filter is GO🚀

I shall get the back end up the ramps, after the front for oil, and do some measuring for the back-box bobbin looping brackets + link pipe length 📏

Interesting discovery.... 🔧

I have noticed when cranking from cold the oil light goes out instantly - then blinks for a fraction of a second after about 5 seconds.... There was a comment on Astra forum about using Vx original oil filters, not cheappo knockoffs 😶‍🌫️

Can't say my [.. cough] value oil filters were anything but a good fit >> snap on/DROP straight in...  *note DROP!

I got the latest Bosch and when I attempted to fit it it was difficult to slot it down the cannister, over the centre pin.... I looked carefully at the filter and it has a soft rubber sealing ring which must be fed squarely down on fitting >> Ah Haa 👀 = drain back seal 😮.

Obviously my oil filter has been draining away when parked up and must refill.... Since the oil change NO flicker 🎉

Since the incident with my NSF flat tyre/space saver fitted....

I chucked the saver back in the back, when the P/Worns were fitted, and [layzee me...] I didn't put it back under the floorboards.

Yesterday I put everything back right.... and discovered the PO had been in before 😲

Wrapped in a piece of cloth was a 1/2" t-bar with 17mm socket on. And a short trolley jack tube handle [scaffy-esque].... Annnd a Towrope. 😉

I have turned around my back box problem - the box not being suitable for the Vx bobbin mounts.

The box has a top-mount hanger fitted...

.... and (having checked space + clearance) the chassis above the back box has a preformed hole ....

I will fabb up a bracket, with a long bolt coming off at 90°, and the two bobbins....

.... will keep everything suspended ✔️👍

An elegant + simple solution.

Suspending the back box, on the bobbin, we need >>

A flanged plate, bolted to the chassis, with a cross rod bolted through it to hang the bobbin....

The M8 furniture nut will go through the blind 14mm chassis hole and tip across (with some thread to retain it) and take a securing bolt for the flanged plate.

Once all secured it will be time to fit the box 👍

Using an axle stand I managed to stop the stock box landing on my head ✔️

Success with barrel nut + bracket attachment...

...... Insurmountable differences between the Vx pipe and the Mazda box 'orientation' = the 30° inter pipe is too much >> needed 15° 🙄.

Great fun was had with my spanking new Buzz-Box, however..

65A running on the brand new extension ✔️

Auto dim mask is GR9.. 🤣.. you see where you are going to weld then it goes BLACK and you get a fiery yellow glow.. as you carve wildly through your base metal.

I'll revisit the areas later 🤣🩹

The reason for *attempted welding of back box pipe...

.... the stub I had clamped on was squashed out of shape and I couldn't get a pipe to insert.

Scrub that and *weld a nice sweet stub on 😵‍💫

I just lashed the Vx box back on with tywraps around the rubber bobbins (cut to remove).

I've had a chipboard screw winking at me, from the inner track of o/s/r, for some time but no leak down.. until today 🫤

Our friendly 'englis spoked eer' taxi driver friendly PW outfit sorted me >> on the spot 😮👀

He lay down and luckily the head was at 9 o'clock, facing him. He hoiked the screw out and lashed a liquorice bootlace in, cropped the tail with a scarfing knife >>> squeezy bottle of washup liquid for testing... 👍
