This was just posted on my forum

L reg vauxhall Astra 1.7d. Family owned car for about the last 10 years, I've had it 3 years and done 35,000 miles, been regularly serviced, recent new alternator and battery, had cam belt about 20k ago.Showing 142k miles no reason to doubt its correct. No rot just a bit of discolouration to n/s/r wheel arch, never been welded, dead solid underneath.Taxed and Tested till End August (I think - will need to check), towbar, central locking but no power steering. Few old MOTs but no service history as such. All good tyres, tidy enough to look at but has some scratches down drives side thanks to local scum.Should test again fine but does need the horn and washers sorting (probably just furry connections as they are intermittant at times).Dead reliable, was doing 5-600 miles a week in it for a couple of months last year, I'de happily jump in this car and drive non-stop to Poland never uses any oil between changes and i've never had to top the water up at all.Only selling as I need a van for work £375 onoCollection from near Gatwick airport, will give it a good clean out over the weekend and post some photosPlease no swaps unless you have an Aussie Ford, Chrysler or Holden and somewhere I can hide it ;)my mobile is 07845 340781

Hope it's not the turbo for extra shiteness. These motors will last for like EVER.

would this run on veg oil?

This question is the new 'Are these RWD'? Suits these more austere times when less folk have money to spend wankering up Volvo 340's.

Should be Isuzu engine at that age so will do.

People might be running their Transit DIs on straight oil, but it's accepted wisdom in veg oil circles that all direct injection diesels suffer badly when run on straight oil without proper conversion (i.e. a twin tank kit).It might just be that Transit DIs are more accepting than others.

Yes, they are, as long as the pump is a Bosch. I know people that have run them for 1000s of miles without problems. Mixing it 50/50 is the most common.

Just to add, the 17D (non turbo), the 17TD (Isuzu), and the X17DTL (Low blow) were all available in all years in the Astra F (Mk3) The only one not to make it into the G was the non-turbo. Check the CC's off Doovla site if the reg is available. 1700 is the Vauxhall engine, 1686 is the Isuzu unit.
