MOT and windsreens

My MOT is coming up end of the month and the frost has turned a small chip into a crack overnight. It is right at the bottom of the screen and only obstructs my view of the bonnet its below the tax disk but still technically in the wiper area, its almost gone right across now, its a laminated screen in a wedge shape rover 418 derv tourer, the inside of the screen is fine you cant feel a crack. Will this fail the test?I do have a good spare screen in a 200 in the back yard, would anyone be able to fit this into the 418 and what would be a fair price for this job?

Been told if it's in the 'wipe' of the wiper, it's a fail. Nobody seems to know though.

Check out the requirements for the mOT on these pages, then you can check for yourself.

Section 8 and Drivers view of the road. If it is in the swept area of the wipers and is outside of the Zone A then it has to be more than 40mm in length before it fails. Zone A has a stricter limit of 10mm max damage.

Any damage outside of the swept area or in the blacked out area where the wipers park (as found on some vehicles) does NOT count and will not fail.

Great link - my car has a couple of scars on the screen and that looks like I'm OK. Thanks. :D

Could you not adjust the wiper arms up a couple of splines so they park above the crack?

The way I test em is this. If I can see road past the crack, it fails, If I see bonnet etc, pass and advise. (Obviously taking into consideration of zones A and B.)
