lancashireclamper Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Ok, stupid question I know but, midlife crisis upon me, am I totally round the twist to even consider this; http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ?logcode=p Its about 10 miles away from me, in fact I have seen it around and about and it does look quite tidy, never had an Alfa before but have heard horror stories from some and undying love from others. Should mention that it would be my only form of transport and be used for a 24 mile a day round trip commute.
maxpower Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 my son got a "y" plate 2001 spider 147 with brand new engine fitted only done 3000 miles on new engine... few scrapes and scuffs..all in all looked a lovely car, in truth it was a bag of metal shite!! luckily he got rid and only lost £100 on the deal, plus the insurance for him was through the roof
Mr Lobster Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Nice car, potential for it being a money pit is quite high.
lancashireclamper Posted March 27, 2010 Author Posted March 27, 2010 Yep, think the head will have to rule the heart on this one,Think watching the graduate when I was a teenager is to blame for my leaning towards Alfa spiders, and Anne Bancroft
Justin Case Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 No mention of cambelt etc being done , therefore assume it needs doing. there are two belts and tensioners on the 2 litre, therefore allow about £350-£400 at an independent Alfa specialist before you use it in anger. Otherwise go for it, you regret more the things that you didn't do than the things that you did do (new Autoshite motto? )
Albert Ross Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Watch out for rear suspension faults emanating as uneven tyre wear. Subframe mounts/bushes and stuff collapsing as you drive. Might be worth one of those AA inspections priot to considering a purchase?
ashmicro Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Nice car, potential for it being a money pit is quite high.+11!1Airbag faults, loose dashboard (!) ignition problems in the mix.
lancashireclamper Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 Brief update of not a lot really,Finally plucked up the courage to phone the seller, went straight to voicemail, phoned back, same again, natures way of saying maybe its not for you perhaps........................
