What has 36 years of car development bought?

The 'new' Mini went on sale in 2001 so is just about contemporaneous with the last of the Ford Escorts, real Fiestas, blobby Corsas, small Micras and what have you.  The design is also older than said 20 year old, which rather puts things in perspective, because to most of us they still seem new.

I owned a 2001 MINI Cooper which was excellent and loads of fun to own and drive. I slightly wish I'd ponied up for the S, but I was too tight to pay the extra road tax, back before monthy payments were a thing. I might buy one as my next car though as I work from home empeegees aren't so critical.

You are spot on, the MINI was absolutely a child of the 90s and despite the Beemer corporate schtick was very much a Rover, the interior trim finish was very Roveresque. It all seemed to old together ok though, my brother's old MGF had an inoperative passenger side electric window as I discovered to my horror after he did a repulsive fart (hood up) whilst we driving somewhere in it.

I prefer my £1.99 Aldi Road atlas.

There's almost 50 years between my Granada and it's first cousin once removed, the MachE, and there's a whole heap of technical development between the two! Arguably the Granada has more in common with a Ford Model A from 50 years earlier. (Electric cars though..., haters gonna hate).

However, it's true, I can drive around in the Granada* pretty much just as easily as the MachE, certainly than when compared with a Model-A.

*The Granada has done about 100yards in 20 years.
