Have sold car,,taken deposit,,but

he still has not collected..What can I do???Do I HAVE TO HOLD THE CAR FOR HIM INDEFINETELY??? I could have sold it 10 times over. I was paid a deposit 3 weeks ago and car was suppose to be collected the last 2 weekends. Siad he would be here today, but I texted him last night to see what time he would be here as I too have other things to do, but once again no answer. I'll be damned if he is getting his deposit back Have I any rights in this respect????John

Did you make any mention of the deposit being refundable or not? Did you specify when he bought it that is must be collected within xx days?

Yeah, receipt needs to state 'non-refundable deposit' really.Is there a way you could find somewhere to store it (proper place, not a mate's drive) and tell him if he doesn't collect in the next five days you'll take it there and he will incur any charges?Might make him shit himslef enough to come and collect it.

Can you actually sell it elsewhere? If so, I would and then just give him his deposit back. Maybe wait till he turns up to collect the car finally and just hand him an envelope if you're feeling mean.If you threaten him with "come and get it or I'm flogging it to someone else" then you run the risk of him saying "OK, go on then". So if you've not got another buyer, you've shot it. The 'storage fees' is worth a go, but really for that to stand up you'd have to have mentioned it in the advert too.You live, you learn
