I just happen to have a 1951 edition Hillman Minx handbook (soon to go on Ebay :) ) which gives the 'three-box' Minx as the Mark 3, therefore the estate would be mark 1 or 2. I think that it went up to about Mark 8 when in 1956, it was replaced by the Loewy designed series 1, which ultimately developed into the series 6, before that in turn was replaced by the 'Arrow' Minx (cheaper Hunter) which finally died in 1970ish. No wonder there can be confusionInteresting Minx trivia from the handbook, in 1934 they produced the 'Melody Minx' with fitted radio 8) and the main advance for 1936 was that the Minx now had a boot, although you could only get at it by folding down the back seat :(

I think for one year of production in the '30s the Minx was given an all-synchro gearbox as well, wasn't it? They reverted to crash first for the next model year.

The Mark VIII Minx was marketed as the "Gay Look".....

The 1st car my parents had, which I can JUST remember, was a Ford 8. I mention this, coz it too had a boot only accessible vie the rear seat.
