I wasn't happy earlier, did a service on 'er indoors trusty old BMW, a job that should have been completed inside an hour, but as usual whenever I do a job on a vehicle something doesn't go quite according to plan. This time it was the diesel filter, when it came to putting the new one on that was purchased from the local GSF branch yesterday it just wouldn't screw onto the filter head.

Looking closely at it provided the answer, the Bosch filter that had the legend 'Made in Spain' on it hadn't been manufactured properly, the locating thread was almost non existant. Thanks a lot Pedro  So I had to drive to a local motor factor that thankfully opens on Sundays and get another, this time a Crossland filter that was rather expensive, but on a Sunday choice is limited. All the running about made the job take an hour longer, and me more grumpy than usual

I had a Halfords filter that wouldn't screw on. It's great to have to put the old one back on with new oil isn't it?

i was always told that reusing a filter was ok (although the sump, copper washer should always be replaced) but the filter if you shouldnt be able to find another, could be rinsed out with petrol (i mean a rinse not a splash) and be reused??..with most filters costing like afew nicker never tried it..ps thats zodiac's the bomb 8)

I've been a skinflint in the past and tried to wash out fuel filters, I get through quite a few running my car on waste vegetable oil. No matter what I try, they are impossible to clean properly. Added to that, they are only about £2.50 or something.

I have found when buying parts from ECP, to just tell em they wont fit without even trying em. then they'll give you some other parts, which are more likely to fit than the first lot. This saves a lot of time I can tell you.
