PhilA Posted April 30, 2023 Author Posted April 30, 2023 Decided to get back on doing stuff to the car. Least enjoyable- grinding. Emptied all the stuff out of the cabin. Vacuumed all the trash out, leaves, dirt, bits of tarpaulin. Decided I wanted to see what condition the rear floor is in. Got this far with the grinder and it gave up the ghost. Put some paint on to protect the metal. That's not too bad actually. Now I just need a new angle grinder. mk2_craig, RayMK, LightBulbFun and 10 others 13

PhilA Posted May 1, 2023 Author Posted May 1, 2023 Cleaning up ok. Couple pinholes and one place that would benefit from a patch but it's not too bad. Phil RayMK, Tickman, Dyslexic Viking and 7 others 10

PhilA Posted May 3, 2023 Author Posted May 3, 2023 Drivers side rear footwell was less bad than I thought it would be. Passenger side doesn't look as healthy. Rust Collector, mercedade, danthecapriman and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted May 4, 2023 Author Posted May 4, 2023 Started in on the corner closest to the camera there, and it disintegrated. Patch. Needs another one across the ribs there too. mercedade, danthecapriman, RayMK and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted May 6, 2023 Author Posted May 6, 2023 It pissed it down with rain. Thus, it got washed out. Quick and easy method of getting rid of all the grinding dust. Utilitarian. RayMK, mercedade, Mrs6C and 4 others 7
PhilA Posted May 6, 2023 Author Posted May 6, 2023 Rain ceased and everything dried out. So, I cut a hole to remove thin and holed metal. Started forming a replacement and it began to rain again. End of play for today. Dyslexic Viking, RayMK, mk2_craig and 3 others 6
PhilA Posted May 7, 2023 Author Posted May 7, 2023 It's too hot for this today. But that's the rear footwell done on the driver's side. Rust Collector, Tepper, RayMK and 5 others 8
PhilA Posted May 11, 2023 Author Posted May 11, 2023 Cut the rust out. Put new metal in. Deja vu Dyslexic Viking, mercedade, Tickman and 9 others 12
PhilA Posted May 12, 2023 Author Posted May 12, 2023 Had a bit of a poke about up front. Looks terrible, found bathroom sealant. That always bodes well towards the skill of the previous repair artiste. So, started on this lot. I thought I'd be going through most of it to thin air. Turns out that's paint over dirt. Cleaned out, there are a few holes and a couple thin bits but that's less bad than I thought it would be. Need to unbolt the gas pedal off the floor next. Also found where the scuttle is leaking. RayMK, GrumpiusMaximus, Datsuncog and 8 others 11
PhilA Posted May 13, 2023 Author Posted May 13, 2023 Scrubbed the paint back, found a couple small holes that turned into two patches. Patched a third hole. Called it done for today, need to get some more paint. hairnet, Tepper, LightBulbFun and 11 others 14
PhilA Posted May 15, 2023 Author Posted May 15, 2023 This side is a bit crusty. It's lost all shape due to the rust, so I made up a template based on the other side. Fairly straightforward. I can get that cut out and welded in. hairnet, RayMK, GrumpiusMaximus and 6 others 9
PhilA Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 That's that corner piece made. Garythesnail, Back_For_More, GrumpiusMaximus and 6 others 9
PhilA Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 That'll go in there. djim, danthecapriman, Garythesnail and 2 others 5
PhilA Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 Oh yeah. I also got a bit heavy handed with the grinder... The frame is in good condition, luckily. LightBulbFun, djim, RayMK and 1 other 4
PhilA Posted June 5, 2023 Author Posted June 5, 2023 Made the flat cross section, with strengthening ribs and welded it in. Looking at how to move on with the rest, and still get it mostly right. It's going to end up patchwork. djim, Stanky, mercedade and 5 others 8
PhilA Posted June 5, 2023 Author Posted June 5, 2023 Tried to put in a bit of time on the car after work. Cut the flat section where the seat bolts down; just as I finished it started hoying it down with rain. Rushed to unplug and bring everything in. Heavy rain! Ten minutes later it's stopped but everything's too wet to continue. I went to the hardware store instead and bought some more cutting discs. More tomorrow if the weather allows. Dan_ZTT, Dyslexic Viking, danthecapriman and 10 others 13
PhilA Posted June 7, 2023 Author Posted June 7, 2023 Seam welded that in. Ran out of daylight. Rust Collector, Dan_ZTT, GrumpiusMaximus and 7 others 10
PhilA Posted June 8, 2023 Author Posted June 8, 2023 Old. New. Getting there slowly. Looks better, significantly less air in the floor now. Tickman, danthecapriman, Garythesnail and 14 others 17
PhilA Posted June 10, 2023 Author Posted June 10, 2023 Hot outside today so I decided on a bit of indoor arts and crafts. Contractor at work had accidentally broken a ceiling light so I trash picked a section of the lens and made diffusers for the turn signals. That's pretty much what I was aiming for initially so I'm happy. Looks good. Phil Dan_ZTT, Rocket88, Stanky and 15 others 18

PhilA Posted June 10, 2023 Author Posted June 10, 2023 Got as far as cutting out a slice of floor and it started to rain. Phil danthecapriman 1
