must be having a slow day, agreed it was now time to change the gearbox, find out the loss of turbo power and fix afew other jobs, so far removed driveshafts, underbelly tray, upper cover, half the wiring, not even got to underdoing one gearbox bolt yet as i've had to rip off the front bumper, valance and everything off to get to the intercooler, no longer the three hour job the golf mk2 used to be, what a nightmare  would of liked to of got it done in a day but as i've not even got the new one off the old parts car yet i cant see that happening  rant over

What's the turbo doing?, if it's slow right from the start, it could be the air mass meter. If the turbos fine one minute and not the next and resets when the ignition is cycled on and off, then it's likely an overboost and the ECU has shut the turbo down. For this the official repair is to replace the turbo and manifold, the unofficial/cheaper way is here:

I would agree with above. Having had it happen on several of our Octavia 1 company fleet, the official repair is a turbo. Midland Turbos do recons from £185, as an example. Mind you when it happened to mine it only did it every so often for about 3 or 4 months. then it started getting worse so I did get it changed.I did get quite used to flicking the ignition off and on at speed to bring back the turbo. Something to do with the variable vane system IIRC.

nah turbo's spinning for like a second then nothing, i've got another turbo etc to go on, just not looking forward to doing the job as i presume its probably going to end with the engine out

Had a few of these in, usually caused by the turbo internals coking up. There is a cleaner that you put into the turbo, and leave for 20 mins , forgot the name for now, but have it at work. Works a treat and only 40 quid or so. Gotta be worth a go!

we'll box in out not to bad, although not looking forward to doing it with the rad etc still in :lol:i'm gonna pull the other pipes see if that makes a difference as the turbo spins so there must be just an airleak somewhere :twisted:

unbolt it from its housing :) just bolts to the exhaust and inlet

the passat is actually quiet simple to get around, just an arse without a ramp, most of the turbo set-up is accessible :) shame ours is 90bhp not sure about the other one (could be 90 or 110bhp), be nice with 20 extra bhp  not sure how your ment to know the difference its abit new for me

I am probably wrong here but, try disconnecting the MAF sensor, if that resolves the problem then change the MAF. I don't think your turbo has VNT.(Waiting to be proven wrong  )
