Oooh. A cracking display of Oxford shite on ITV1 at the moment. Lewis in his F-reg Cavalier Mk3 and lots of lovely Eighties motors. I'm in heaven.

One episode I'm trying to catch to record is "Driven to Distraction" which centres around a driving school and a Vauxhall dealership. I always seem to miss having a DVD in the recorder when it's on or it's half way through by the time I realise it was this episode :x

Ooh, saw that one a few months ago. Not only is Morse brilliant but the car content is amazing. Hmmmm. Senator police cars. Fantastic. This one even had a Fiat Regata.

If you can find the episode based around a self-help clinic and an opera singer (can't remember the name of it) - it was filmed almost entirely in Italy, and iirc was full of random Euro-tin, especially obscure Lancias and Fiats.

On a totally different and pointless subject, one of the episodes was filmed in my otherwise forgettable home town of Stevenage - they changed all the road signs in the High St for ones with Oxfordshire towns on. As if Oxford didn't have enough photogenic locations. They also 'stole' the (in)famous glass office block which was built in the shape of the owners' trademark; unfortunately you could only see the shape from an aeroplane, which kinda defeated the object.

Aah yes, the episode where Morse thinks the bloke who owns the Vox - Hall dealership is the wrong'un when it's the old codger driving instructor. The Vauxhall dealer in the episode is NOT in Oxford. In those days Vauxhall was City Motors on the big roundabout where North Oxford Garage BMW are now.The Vauxhalls used are all on Luton plates so were press/demo cars.

Isn't the wrongly suspected vauxhall dealer played by Patrick Malahide; aka DS "Charlie" Chisholm from minder? Pilot; in said programme of Morris Marinas Austin Montegos undercover 'Met' cars galore. seem to remember Morse giving him a steering wheel at the end as a "peace offering" steady now!!

This one even had a Fiat Regata.

Oddly enough I saw a Regata last time I was in Oxford - a blue saloon it was, driving round what I think is called the pear tree roundabout at the top of Banbury Road.

Driven to DistractionThe apparently motiveless murder of two young women points to a psychotic killer. Morse's speculations on what they might have in common leads him to a local garage owner, Jeremy Boynton, who knew them both, and who arouses his suspicions and dislike. Convinced that Boynton holds the key to the crime, Morse begins to hound him, despite having no firm evidence. Morse is also faced with the possible oss of his beloved red Mk II Jaguar.
