Swiss Railway Journeys

I realise this is totally O/T, but what a brilliant programme this is. I've been addicted to it for years. Wondered if anyone else is aware of it. Always crops up on The Travel Channel (Sky ch. 251), sometimes they so a full 24 hours of back to back episodes, sat through lots of that in my time. Not so now having a baby, but regular as clockwork she's up and feeding for 4am when it starts, and is settled back down by the time it finishes, thus making the night feed a totally enjoyable experience. Many episodes were made back in 1989-1992 so there's always plenty of spotting potential in the background too, thats the best bit. Bliss.

I've seen this once or twice and it's great! Theres something very relaxing about it, really makes the thought of continental railway travel very appealing. On a related note, a few years ago we got a train from Pisa to Florence. It was ace! Lovely scenery, very relaxing, nice comfy seat in the train, would happily do it all again. That said I just enjoy travelling however it's done.

Swiss Railway Journeys rules. As you say, most relaxing (some might say to the point of tedium, but they are idiots).Sadly, since downgrading from Sky to Freeview, the only chance I get to see it these days are on my regular visits to Autoshite Southern HQ (m'colleague Mr Leyland's gaff)

Thought it disappeared from the schedules when Travel Channel 2 went earlier this year. If it’s on the Travel Channel now that’s a winner!

I've been trying to watch this fella:

Every morning on Discovery Real Time at 8am, but downloading loads of his stuff on the net. I doubt there's anything more calming and relaxing than watching him with his 2 inch brush!

There's loads of woodwork programmes on that I would watch purely to chill out to, but I can't because it is constantly plagued by 'incidental music' (ie. really bad dance/drum n bass music). Stop using incidental music in documentaries you fucking twats!!!!!!!!

Ey fuckin ell that was the episode on this morning at 4am, I watched the whole hour. What are the chances of that? Approx 1 in 30 I think. You can buy the box set for £300. One day....

My missus can just about stomach my car thing, watching Quincy ME every morning, Bob Ross, but if I put this on, I think she'd leave me.

I understand. SRJ is a fine line between lovable eccentric leftfield taste, and unbelievably boring nerdy geekdome. I fully understand what most folks would think. But ultimately deep down don't really mind that it's the wrong side of acceptable. To be enjoyed, but without broadcasting the fact to those who just won't ever get it.

If you fancy replicating things Suisse stylee, go direct to the swiss tourist board - the Galcier express is well under a ton with meals and all on the train.

I can heartly reccomend www.seat61.com for train itineries too 8)

^^ Cheers will look into that.Took the missus to Interlaken last year and went up the Jungfraujoch amonsgt other places in the area, took the train everywhere. As you'd expect, superb quality, ultra clean, ran like clockwork, and the views everywhere, well. Er indoors was so blown away by the views she thought she was in a movie with OTT special effects, laughinh "oh f*ck off that isnt real"No kit to be seen anywhere though, cos of very stringent car safety standards, that's the downside.

I meant in term of strict MOT's that kind of thing.Sbarro, brilliant. And lets not forget Monteverdi, churning out massively overpriced supercars in the 70s with a bit of an Autoshite twist, such as the 375/4, kind of like a long angular Jensen Inerceptor/Aston Martin Lagonda mongrel. And of course the gorgeous Hai, one of the most common Matchbox supercars of the 70s, but only 2 real ones were ever made I think. Didn't the nose start lifting off the ground when approaching top speed in them or something?I think after that they started defacing Range Rovers and International Harvesters but i could be inaccurate.

Sbarro: Earlier this year at Geneva I saw the legend, couldn't believe how cool he was 8)

That Sbarro guy has got a mega tat museum that literally gets its dong out and wazzes all over mine, I went to see it, probably one of the worlds best museums if you like totally incomprehensible vehicle modifications. He hat a Clio which he had given the 'minisprint' treatment, lowered the roof and chopped a few inches out the height of the main body structure too, unbelievable! How he did that I dont know. Looked class, if a little wobbly.

How did you get the invite Mr_B? Is it at the factory on the border (with bizarre bodyshell hung off a post?) Does he have the twin engined mark 1 Golf still?

I believe I read that they also tended to cook the occupants alive due to the engine being by your left earlobe, something else which no doubt adds to the notoriety/fame.
