OK, I've wanted a Honda Spacy for ages but nothing half decent ever seemed to turn up within striking distance. Sadly raymanboy's £1100 show winner was out of my price range

And then this stash appears:

less than 20 miles from my humble abode

Four scooters in total (two runners, one saveable, one shagged) and enough spares to fill a 1990 Talbot wossname! How happy am I? :D

Blimey, that's quality! Is the savable one going to make a third runner? What on earth will you do with three ugly mopeds(*)?

Wikipedia doesn't show anything for a Talbot Wossname though. Pics?

(*) I know they're not mopeds, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm just feeling strangely provocative tonight :)

Fix them, keep one for me and sell the other two, taking great pride in the fact that I will have returned two Honda Spacys into the wild :)

I meant to say Ford Transit of course, can't imagine where that came from...

That's OK, it's a commonly made mistake. The Spacy isn't ugly, it's just differently attractive

Actually, there's bugger all on Wikipedia about the Spacy. Were they known by any other name in foreign lands?I found something about a similar-but-not-the-same American scooter called the CN250, it mentions that it's a larger version of something called an Elite in the US of A, but shows no pictures of said Elite.Amusingly, the CN250 was apparently sold outside America as the Spazio :)

Yes, the Yanks had it as the Elite in 80/125/150cc form where it sold in much greater numbers than here. There's also a 250 Spacy/CH250 which is nice but lacks the all-important pop-up headlight of the 125 version :)

The CN250 was sold in Italy and (I think) France as the Spazio. It's based on the earlier CH250/Spacy with a longer wheelbase, proper storage and weather protection making it the first maxi-scooter. Here & in the US (they sold in droves there right up to 2007) it was known as the Helix and it is still available in Japan as the Fusion.

This is my 1986 grey import Fusion:

I admit it, I have a problem

Yeah, the non-popup headlamp was what alerted me to the fact it wasn't the same as the ones you've bought.... Can't believe they still sell some of them!Still, a nice cool chunk of retro right there :)

GVM, did you ever sort the Vespa out? Also, I'm well coming round and looking at those Spacys when you're not busy.

Steady on Jon, I only got it in 2002! But seriously, it's nearly done now. I got stuck rebuilding the engine with new crankshaft bearings. Later models have a shoulder on the crank so that you can position the bearings correctly, this one of course doesn't. Anyway, after several failed attempts to put the cases back together and get the crank to turn freely I gave up and packed the whole lot into a box and took it up to Chiselspeed. Once they've built the engine and it's refitted that's pretty much job done - hopefully I'll get to ride it this year, it's 50th birthday. Fingers crossed...

Quite a few Spacies in China. Bloody expensive though. A similar model was named "Star Trek". I'll see if there are any in the scooter park when I get back there.
