MOT exempt question?

Recommended Posts

My Triumph 2000 MK1 MOT expires on the 12th May 2018 but MOT exempt doesn,t start until 20th May,do I simply let it expire and it automatically becomes exempt or do I have to declare it exempt somehow?

I do plan to present it to an MOT station, but does this mean it can,t actually get a fail as its not required to have an MOT?

If you want to use it, or keep it on the road, between the MOT expiring and the exemption starting, you will need to retest it. If not, let the old one expire, then on the 20th it will become exempt and you can use it. The next time you tax it, you will be asked to confirm it is unmodified.

Thankyou very much most helpful I was confused with the gap between the old mot expiring and the exempt kicking in.

I think you'll need to declare it exempt. I think it's done when you (re)tax it.

Also, I didn't know you had a Triumph 2000! It's not a Renault!

Yep my Dad bought it in 1974! very sentimental to be but often forgotten...its all roadworthy but needs abit of TLC which it deserves,a change for me in cars is on the horizon,Laguna is for sale and maybe the Safrane next, now THAT would be a nice car for someone to tuck away for the future....
